Review: Boscolo Exedra Roma, An Autograph Collection Hotel

The Boscolo Exedra is part of the Boscolo brand: an exclusive collection of luxury hotels that provides unique and intimately designed properties across Europe. It’s partnered with Marriott’s Autograph collection and offers first class, boutique hotels steeped with cultural significance and local design influences.  They take pride in providing an aesthetic steeped in heritage.

The Boscolo Exedra Roma exudes grandeur –

– both aesthetically and physically as it casts its long shadow across the Piazza della Repubblica in central Rome. It’s a grandeur that suitably reflects deep European luxury, and a landscape that is speckled with historically significant sites.  Rome wasn’t built in a day and the Boscolo is fine way to experience all that Rome has to offer.

I stayed at the Boscolo Prague a couple years back and loved it. It was pre-blog days, otherwise I’d have a review, but I loved it. We were put in a 2 story room, in what is a renovated and repurposed bank, that feels authentic to Prague. That’s what the Boscolo brand represents… old, classic, architecturally significant buildings that have been retrofit for contemporary repurposing.

The Boscolo Exedra overlooks the Piazza della Republica and is very centrally located:

  • The train station is a ten minute walk, the Spanish steps are a little over 20 mins, and many other sites nearby.

I’m not sure I’ve ever entered a hotel and been so pleasantly welcomed by the scent of flowers as I was here. Magnificent peony arrangements swath the lobby sitting area, and their fragrance is incredible.

Check in:

We arrived around noon and our room wasn’t available. We were meeting with a tour guide in the lobby and needed lunch so it wasn’t a big deal and the hotel was very busy because of the European League football final being held in Rome.

Upgrade to Exclusive room

The rooms we had booked were deluxe and we were bumped up to two exclusive rooms which were similar to a Junior Suites with a decent partial city view. I believe across the hall there are rooms with balconies that overlook the Piazza, but we were gone most of the time as we were seeing all the incredible cultural offerings so the view wasn’t that important.

The room was grand.

Ceilings were at least 15 feet if not 20 feet high. It made the room feel even bigger than it was and created an enormous spectrum of light when the blinds were opened. There is a large flat screen tv and a fully stocked mini bar.

The bathroom had bathed itself in marble.

This is how I felt in this bathroom

stacks

It was slab on slab on slab and had a gigantic dual vanity and tons of Etro bath products.  It was Lux on lux on lux. Separate tub and shower. It was like a luxurious Italian rappers bathroom. Miles felt right at home like he was stacks on stacks on stacks.

Next to the hotel is a movie theatre, Eataly, and a very delicious small Italian restaurant just out the door and to the left, twice. We ate at those spots, but each morning we ate in the hotel restaurant where they serve breakfast. Which to avoid any confusion they have named:

La Frusta Breakfast Room

Breakfast – included as a platinum and was continental. If you wanted something hot it was off menu and paid for separately. The food was excellent: Very fresh and delicious. There were probably 15 guests ( at the most) and 4 staff members to serve them. Which is amazing seeing as though it’s buffet style. Everything about the hotel is boutique. There aren’t any places, aside from a party area on the room, that could accommodate a large group, so you always feel quite cozy.

It was very very good.

The rooftop.

Situated around the pool is an absolutely great spot to have a couple drinks and a snack. If you’re in the mood for a fancier, more expensive meal, the restaurant has a small eating area off to the back as well, which would provide a panoramic view of the city.

The pool is small and has a limited window to swim. It’s open from 10 to 6 everyday. The bar stops serving food at 7pm – so if you’re looking for a cheaper food option, make sure you get there prior to 7 otherwise you’re looking at 50E per person minimum.

Overall

The property is absolutely worthy of a category 9 rating. It is boutique luxury in central Rome offering its guests geographic centrality, attention to detail, and the feeling of being steeped in a kettle of Italian indulgence. Worth every bit the 45k per night.
