Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan keeps getting richer and richer!

The gift that keeps on giving. The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program keeps adding amazing new partners. Earlier this year we learned about Japan Airlines, Condor, and Finnair. Now, we find out that Singapore Airlines is joining the network of airline partners.  Additionally, Alaska Airlines has absolutely insane earn rates on partners. As an example, I’ll be earning roughly 50k for each roundtrip I take to Europe on BA’s business. That’s a one way leg for every roundtrip. Members will start earning points on each airlines separate programs starting Sept 27th and have the ability to redeem on flight at a later date. Both Alaska Airlines and Singapore will enact a codeshare partnership as well – this means that you will be able to have ” seamless reservations and ticketing, one-stop check0in, baggage check to final destionation and coordinated flight schedules.” Needless to say…I can not wait to see what the Alaska Airlines award chart looks like for Singapore Air and the routing rules that are associated. Alaska’s program has some of the most generous redemptions options out there and allows stopovers. Can you tell I’m really excited that Alaska Airlines and Singapore Airlines are partnering up?

Here’s the official press release in its entirety.

SEATTLEAug. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Alaska Airlines announced today that Singapore Airlines will be its newest Global Partner. Members of Alaska Mileage Plan and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer loyalty programs will begin earning miles on each other’s flights beginning Sept. 27. Mileage Plan members will be able to redeem miles for travel awards on Singapore Airlines-operated flights at a later date.

In addition, the two carriers will enact a codeshare partnership, pending government approval, which will allow guests booking through Singapore Airlines to travel on both airlines and enjoy seamless reservations and ticketing, one-stop check-in, baggage checked to final destination and coordinated flight schedules.

“We’re very proud to add an airline of the caliber of Singapore Airlines to our portfolio of Global Partners,” said Andrew Harrison, chief commercial officer for Alaska Airlines. “Our guests will enjoy truly distinctive inflight service when traveling with Singapore Airlines, while also taking full advantage of their Alaska Mileage Plan benefits when traveling from the West Coast to Asia.”

Virgin America guests have enjoyed frequent flyer benefits with Singapore Airlines since 2013. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan will take over as the singular loyalty program for Virgin America flyers starting in 2018.

“Our new partnership with Alaska Airlines enables us to improve connectivity between Singapore and the important North American market, providing customers with more codeshare destinations and enhanced KrisFlyer benefits. It also reflects our commitment to continuously expand our network reach and offer our customers greater flexibility when planning their travel itineraries,” said Tan Kai Ping, Singapore Airlines senior vice president marketing planning.

Known for its premium inflight service as the world’s most awarded airline, Singapore Airlines flies from Alaska’s San Francisco hub to Singapore nonstop and via Hong Kong, and from Alaska’s Los Angeles hub to Singapore via Seoul or Tokyo (Narita), with connecting service from Seattle and Portland. In all, Changi Airport-based Singapore Airlines flies to over 60 destinations in more than 30 countries on five continents worldwide.

It is great news that another good airline partner is being added. My favorite redemption is still the 70k for F to Asia though. What about you?

    • Miles September 3, 2017

70k is such a fantastic redemption. I’d love to fly Cathay from TLV to the US for 70k in a mix of biz and first.

So can I earn star gold status on SQ by flying AS? Good place to put miles after 75k status is secure.

  • wearelegion August 31, 2017

@henry LAX, hush, you’re going to ruin the breathless fanboyism :-p

  • turgutbey August 31, 2017

I live in Seattle, so what I am most curious about is can I use SQ miles to combine redemption on Alaska and Star alliance partners. For example, can I use SQ mils to book SEA-SFO on Alaska and then SFO-IST on Turkish on a single ticket?

    • Miles August 31, 2017

turgutbey – It’ll be interesting to see how this is done once award redemptions are available, but I don’t see why not.

  • henry LAX August 31, 2017

SQ nearly never releases long-haul premium cabins to any of their partners whatsoever, so I don’t see how AS is any special. It’s not like those SQ flights to SFO, LAX, JFK, and IAH live-and-die from AS feed.
