No, your BOGO isn’t limited to just entry level rooms

I recently used 32k points to join IHG’s Ambassador program that is exclusively tailored to their top flight Intercontinental hotels. It’s a funky situation whereby IHG runs two ( 3 if you include Kimpton’s) loyalty programs concurrently, and the Ambassador program is one that requires a fee to join. One very cool aspect to the program is their BOGO ( Buy One Get One ) weekend night certificate.  Now you could redeem this bad boy for entry level rooms and make back the 32k points or $200 that you spent to join in a single stay, OR you could pump up your weekend with higher category room. Let’s take a look at the IHG Ambassador Free Weekend Night

You can search BOGO nights here…or sign up if you aren’t an Ambassador member yet.

You should know a few things about the BOGO certificate BEFORE you book.

  1. A weekend is different depending on where you are in the world
    • Fri, Sat, Sun, except in the Middle East where it’s Thurs, Fri, Sat
  2. You need to have the certificate in hand at check-in EXCEPT
    • If you haven’t received the cert, or forgot it. You can then call into the Ambassador line and have them attach it to your reservation
  3. The Ambassador BOGO rate is typically more expensive.

Ok…Enough! Show me some of the cool deals!!!

Here’s a look at the Intercontinental Shanghai Ruijin.

Centrally located, and steeped in history. I looked at some random dates in November and sure enough…multiple category rooms were available with the Ambassador certificate. Lemme tell you, I’ve got my eye on that 80 sqm Superior Suite 😉

You can snag a free night on nearly $600 club suites.

I would mostly be redeeming points. Do you get upgrades on rooms paid for with points?

    • Miles November 13, 2017

Hey Kate – yep! upgrades on point redemptions

    • Sergey November 14, 2017

In fact you just need to book 1 cat. below the room you want. Minimum 1 level upgrade is guaranteed. (However Club access won’t be given, if a non-Club room is booked and you get upgraded to Club room. Also few specific suites at some properties are excluded, there is a detailed list.)

      P. S. That was meant for a general thread. As for you question, on points booking upgrades are not guaranteed, though people report they normally still get upgraded.
