American Express Platinum Upgrade Offers
American Express Platinum is one of the most sought after premium cards on the market. It comes steeped with travel benefits, but here lately, offers for new cardmembers have included 10x at US Supermarkets and US Gas Stations for 6 months, up to $15k in total spend. It’s a truly stellar opportunity to earn crazy bonus points at places you may a large percentage of your purchases. It now appears that Amex is targeting Green/Gold cardholders with amazing Amex Platinum UPGRADE offers.
*The biggest difference this time around is that the 10x on US Supermarkets and US Gas Stations is a part of the upgrade terms.
The two offers I’ve seen so far:
I’ve had two readers send me screen shots showing 75k upgrade offers with $5k spend in 6 months, and I’ve seen multiple 25k bonus points after $2k spend in 3 months. Both upgrade offers include the 10x at US Supermarkets and US Gas stations for 6 months, up to $15k in total spend.
Here’s a look at the 75k Amex Platinum Upgrade Offer
- Spend $5k in 6 months to earn 75k Membership Rewards
- Earn 10x at US Supermarkets and US Gas Stations for 6 months, up to $15k
And the 25k Amex Platinum Upgrade Offer
- Spend $2k in 6 months earn 25k Membership Rewards
- 10x at US Supermarkets and US Gas Stations for 6 months, up to $15k
Aside from the obvious point differential, the spend requirements are substantially different. One requires $5k in 6 months, the other is $2k in 3 months. Both are very palatable minimum spend requirements.
What if you have had an Amex Platinum – do I qualify?
It appears so, two of the readers had an Amex Platinum in the past, the other never had one. I not only had one in the past, but still carry one that was grandfathered in as an Amex Platinum Mercedes a few years ago. I still received an upgrade offer…I’ll likely take it, and then cancel my Amex Platinum since I don’t need two Plats and the other has a fee due in April.
Is this the best upgrade offer we’ve ever seen?
75k with $5k spend in 6 months + 10x US Supermarkets and US Gas Stations is a fantastic upgrade offer. Have we seen anything better than this? I’m not thinking of an upgrade offer better than this off the top of my head. Let me know if you’ve heard of one better and I’ll update this section to reflect it.
Will I get a hard pull?
I don’t believe so. Usually with upgrade offers nothing changes with your account…the account number stays the same, etc. In fact, you could keep using your old card and it would work. This also works with downgrades. With that said… anything is possible, but you shouldn’t get a hard pull.
Will a new account appear on my credit score?
Similar to the hard pull question, you will not have a new account appear of your credit score. The account is just changing internally.
What if I’ve never had Amex Platinum before?
If you’ve never had Amex Platinum in the past…I would try and get the best possible offer you can get. Currently, people are scoring 100k Amex Platinum referrals on our referral page. Some are even getting targeted offers of 125k via Amex.
While you can certainly use Amex points within Amex Travel, our favorite travel redemptions are utilizing over 20 Amex partners. Moving points into these programs unlocks an incredible amount of value and potential to travel like you’ve always dreamed. Check out our dedicated page to great uses of Amex points – we’re always adding additional uses.
One of our favorite and most aspirational uses is Emirates First Class. Emirates flights start up again from the US to Europe in June meaning you’ll be able to fly like this for just 85k Emirates points…a 1:1 transfer partner of Amex ( based on award space avail )
