Best ways to use the Amex Business Platinum Dell credits in 2024

Note: These credits are semi annual $200 expires June 30th, another $200 Dec 31st

Years ago when American Express Business Platinum introduced Dell credits my honest reaction was in the realm of ” well, this is useless for me.” I thought to myself, I don’t use any Dell products, so what would I spend that money on?

Funny enough, most people I speak to have no idea they even have the benefit let alone how to capitalize on it.  So, if you’re unfamiliar, Amex Biz Plat cardholders get a $400 annual Dell credit split into 2, $200 statement credits twice a year:  Jan through June, and July through December.

My attitude changed once I dug into Dell a bit more, and while I still don’t value the credit at a full $400, I have found considerable value buying non-Dell products that they happen to sell. Everything from portable chargers to Bose surround sound systems.

My wife and I have total of 5 Amex Business Platinum cards = $1000 semi annually to spend at Dell.com. Here’s what I found to be the best ways to use the Amex Business Platinum Dell credit.

Step 1: You need to enroll first

You should be able to do so on the card rewards page here

Ok…what are the great things I can get with my Amex Business Platinum Dell Credit?

Portable Hard Drives

Unfortunately Dell sold out of Lacies which I’ve used as backup for a few years now, but they do carry quite a few other brands. I imagine we will pick up at least 1

Xbox

You can buy entire consoles, extra controllers, etc.

Microsoft Office

If paying a monthly or yearly license to use their products, you can buy that via Dell and get the credit

Portable battery chargers

I think Anker makes some of the best on the market and guess what?! Dell has them again. For the past couple years, Dell only had Aluratek, which I have several of, but I will undoubtedly apply some of my $1200 ( 6 Amex Biz Plats across my wife and I ), to some Anker products.

My experience has been that Dell often prices their products more than you’d find elsewhere, so while you’re getting value from your credit, it’s not exactly $1 for $1.

The Anker 733 is pretty awesome since you can use it to not only charge multiple devices, but it’ll function as a 10kwh portable charger as well. I have a 633 magnetic battery, which is cool, but only works without a case, so keep that in mind.

Portable speakers

Bose

You can find headphones at attractive rates, but over the past couple years I’ve put together two home theatre setups with credits.

Travel Adapters

If you’re doing much international travel, these are super handy, and I’ll be the first to say…I’ve accidentally left them in hotels around the world. These are great items to get and put back as a little gift to someone taking a trip abroad as well.

Surge Protectors

I find myself moving my laptop around all the time, and often times, I’m in a room that doesn’t have a surge protector and I plug it straight into the wall. A could pick up a few of these and tuck them under a couch, bed, etc.

Printers

Let’s be honest…how many times does your printer konk out.

Microphone…

I’ve purchased a couple Blue Yetis and last year picked up a Shure which I intend to use this year with YouTube videos. It significantly enhances audio quality.

Dell allows splitting payments

This is great if you personally have more than one Amex Business Platinum, or there is more than one in your family and you want to split payment. My personal household has 5, so that’s $2000 in credits we will score for 2022.

Add in Rakuten to earn even more Membership Rewards – keep an eye on this – it has been as high as 15x.

Rakuten partnered with American Express to allow users the ability to earn Membership Rewards instead of cashback. That’s what I do, and how I’ve earned over 100k points this year off referrals and bonus points. You’ll notice that since Amex Offers are triggered on the backend of a purchase, you earn the Rakuten multiple on the full purchase price.

If you don’t have Rakuten, you can use our Referral

    1. Dell will price match certain sites (Amazon.com, Frys.com, Sears.com, Apple.com, Lenovo.com, Staples.com, BestBuy.com, Microcenter.com, Target.com). This is helpful because I find a lot of their stuff really overpriced. Just start a chat and the rep will check out the price match and do your order right there, along with securely entering your CC details. You can even split payment when you’re paying via chat. Downside to this is it prevents you from stacking with a portal.

    2. If you do a single charge of $220 or more you can stack the credit with the 10% back Amex offer, so you end up getting an extra 10% free.

    • Amogh September 21, 2023

Good luck with that. That price match guarantee is an empty promise. They have not price matched in more than one instance compared to Amazon and other websites.

    I bought Nintendo Switch games

  • Christian January 13, 2020

Wow, this was super helpful. Thank you so much. While I kind of regret losing out on past credits, now I have a great use for future ones.

  • Mike Saint January 13, 2020

And don’t forget to go to a Rebate/Buying portal like an Airline portal or Ebates as many times Dell is listed as a vendor to earn even more cash or points.
