Away makes some very trendy and fashionable bags. In fact, my fiancee has one of the Aluminum carry on bags, and even a Rimowa snob like myself will admit…they’re pretty attractive. But, what if you’re in a situation like my own? You recently picked up the new Amex Green card and you don’t need a new suitcase. Personally, I hate letting any benefit go to waste, and the annual $100 Away credit is no different. Here’s how I intend to use the Amex Green $100 Away suitcase benefit.
First let’s take a look at the Amex Green $100 benefit which expires on January 15th
This is a one time offer for new cardmembers and expires January 15th, so get a move on.
Away suitcases start at $225, so if you’re in the market, a net cost of $125 is a pretty fantastic deal. These come in a variety of colors and have the option of including an ejectable battery.
How I plan on using the Amex Green $100 Away benefit
I don’t need a new suitcase because I was able to get deals on Rimowa by purchasing in the EU, avoiding tax and customs, and netting almost 50% off retail. They are crazy pricey, and it’s a big extravagance to carry Rimowa, but since I’ll fly nearly 200k miles this year, I get a ton of use out of them and love every minute.
Instead…I’ll thinking I’ll pick up some packing cubes. Typically, I’ve gone with Ebags, which are significantly cheaper, but Away cubes look handsome, and they’re the right price. If I do, I’ll most likely pick up two or three sets and use up the $100 credit and then some.
2 sets: 4 piece for $45 or 6 piece for $65
The Away Mini
While I already have a dop kit, I just find these little things to be charming. In fact, I may get an aluminum mini for my fiancee so she has a matching set, although I’m unsure how packable it is given its hard case.
The one thing I like about getting minis is that you can get a set of 3 for exactly $100. These would make great gifts, and perfectly use up the $100 credit. I think it’s a fun way for current Away users to pair their suitcase and dop kit.
This is a benefit I didn’t highly value when I picked up my Amex Green, but as it will work out, I’ll end up using the credit to its full value. I’m leaning towards getting 3 minis, giving them as gifts, and putting that Away credit to good use
How would you use the credit?
