Buy Hilton points

Eyes set on Bora Bora sunsets, waking up in the Maldives, or a getaway to New York City?  This promo could help you get on your way, but if you’re not targeted for 100% bonus then just realize you’re not getting the best deal.  If you have a trip you’re looking to book, and buying points could make it cheaper, pull the trigger.  Otherwise I’d suggest waiting until we have a best ever offer. Let’s take a look at this deal, what to be aware of, and some serious examples of how it can save you big bucks.

If you are targeted for 100% bonus, this matches best price we’ve ever seen AND the most you could buy at buy 240k and get 240k = 480k total Hilton Points.

Why would you buy Hilton Points?

Buying any kind of point or mile comes with the risk that those points could be devalued before you have a chance to use them. The way around this is to buy them with a specific redemption in mind + when you see the award availability you want to book.

This way you know you’re getting the value you want out of the points you’re buying because you’re using them immediately. I’ll give a couple of examples further down in this post, but I’m not advising you to buy Hilton points without a specific purpose of use.

The deal runs through 03/12/2024 – Get 100% bonus Hilton Honors up to 320k total points

While the price of this promo is the best at half a penny per point, the total number of points is capped at buy 160k get 160k

The best we’ve seen is buy 240k get 240k…1/2 penny a point and the most we have ever seen.

Want more than the max? Here’s the trick: You can pool up to 2M points from multiple accounts

Hilton allows members to pool their points into a one account. You can transfer up to 500k from a single account, but up to 11 people can participate in a pool, and one member can receive up to 2,000,000 points in a given calendar year. So…you can certainly work around the restriction by having multiple people buy the points, you reimburse them, and then pool them all into your account. Is that a lot of work? Yes, but I’m just stating what’s possible.

If you’re getting married and wanting to take a dope honeymoon, you could have your loved ones can all contribute to help you reach your travel goal.

New Years Hack…How to purchase points for paradise.

Hilton’s top tier properties range between from 95k to 150k. With that said, if you’re looking to stay in uber 5 star luxury…buying points can save you a boatload of cash if you’re already in the market for an expensive trip. The strategy is the same regardless of the class of hotel though…just make sure you’re saving money, and hopefully making use of a 5th night free.

Waldorf Astoria Pedegral Cabo. 120k per night, take advantage of pooling.

You’ll need 480k Hilton points to snag the Waldorf Pedegral, so if you’re starting from zero, this new offer would sort you out.  If you didn’t get that offer, you’d need to pool points.

The cost? $2400 for 5 nights at a hotel that typically charges over $1k per night – and often over $1500. Remember, these are just examples and aren’t reflective of current Covid restrictions, so make sure you can get into your destination prior to buying.

Since Hilton allows pooling of up to 2 million points across multiple accounts, this deal is within reach. Note the most one account can merge is 500k.

HIlton Points Pooling rule of up to 2 Million Points

Overall:

As we said in the intro, don’t buy points speculatively. Also we’re giving outrageously aspirational and insanely expensive destinations to show the potential of deals like this so keep that in mind. Don’t buy points to redeem at your local Hilton Garden Inn by the airport unless it makes sense. Crunch the numbers. We’re just trying to show you what’s possible, and what we’re truly shooting for when we buy points during offers like these. In fact, we purchased last year and wrote an entire article about it.

I looked into this as a way to book a night at a NYC Hilton location. The money spent on points for one night is more than the one night itself, even with this deal. I guess that can happen? I’m trying to learn and am a bit confused.

    this is informative for me

  • DaninMCI July 21, 2021

It’s not worth it. I’m currently looking at award nights in Hawaii as an example. $250 to $300 a night rooms are around 80k each. Hilton has pushed their value over the edge and the others are in a horse race to follow. If you replaced Hyatt with Hilton in this blog post, THEN it would be a good deal. Even with IHG or Marriott I don’t think this would be a great deal. Can you get outsized value, sure, but most people won’t unless they have a very specific redemption.

It says buying points is currently unavailable…

@Miles: stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives and it is a gorgeous property!! Staff is excellent, breakfast with champagne is great and HH for Diamonds save you some money every afternoon. As you can expect and probably know, food, transportation and alcohol are all expensive!! Rooms are spectacular Huge, new, well appointed, and all around beautiful. Plenty of space inside and outside. The pool is big (for an in-room pool) and really you can spend the whole day without venturing outside of your room. Yacht transfer was phenomenal (champers there too). Low points: big hotel and not much coral around (best place to snorkel is by the diving pier). Also you can see several islands from your room. I think the Park Hyatt has the best snorkel in Maldives and it feels more exclusive. In conclusion: excellent use of points and you’ll have an amazing time there.

This is NOT a good deal, as Hilton points are worth about 0.4.

    • Miles November 29, 2020

It’s not a good deal if you redeem at that level, but it’s a great deal if you redeem for standard awards where value is much higher

      • Bhavesh January 1, 2021

I am not seeing the standard room rate on the waldorf astoria maldive property for September 2021. It only shows premium room @ 701k points/night! Am I doing something wrong or did they change the amount of points needed?

        • Miles January 1, 2021

Hey Bhavesh – you’re not doing anything wrong at all, a lot of times these super premium resorts block standard redemptions – just keep checking back over and over again, and if you have a trip planned, the closer to departure the more space usually opens up. But this a good example of why you shouldn’t buy without a redemption available

          • Bhavesh January 1, 2021

Thank you for the info! FYI, I did a calendar check for all of 2021 and it seems they’ve removed all standard room options as I can’t find anything under that 700k/night from January through December. I will keep looking for a possible change but let me know if you see something open up. Thanks again!!

Two exclamation points in the title? Really? For this? You and Elaine Benes use your exclamation points recklessly.

While these are good deals, you probably should have a note about Bora Bora rain in January – you are sending people on a honeymoon during their rainiest month of the year.

  • […] One of the most aspirational places to go in the world is Bora Bora. The Conrad Bora Bora just so happens to be 80k a night. With this deal, you could buy 4 nights at the Conrad for $1600. Even better, if you have Gold or Diamond status, you’d get a 5th night free when you book with all points. $320 a night for the Conrad Bora Bora that typically goes for nearly $1k is an insane deal. Read more here. […]
