If you’re unfamiliar with buying points or even Aeroplan – let me just quickly run through it. Often times, airlines and hotels will straight up sell their points with a bonus or a discount. Now, if you have a flight or hotel stay you’re planning, and you’re either short or completely without points, you can buy the points you need to shore up your account. Heck, you could even to buy the points for the flight or hotel night cheaper than you could with cash. Only buy points when you know you have a reason to use them and it makes financial sense.
Aeroplan is selling their miles for just 1.2 cents. If you’re unfamiliar, Aeroplan is Air Canada’s award program and it’s pretty fantastic. 1.2 cents per point is downright cheap…if you have a reason to use them. Why am I stressing you have a reason to use them? Airlines and hotels devalue their programs all the time. Aeroplan recently updated their program, and historically they’ve been quite customer friendly with notifying us with changes… But, you never know.
Aeroplan is also a transfer partner of American Express, Capital One, and soon to be Chase. For the record you can also convert Marriott Bonvoy points into Aeroplan. Aside from Marriott..I value all of those points more than 1.2 cents…so it could be worthwhile purchasing the points vs transferring. Additionally, I don’t have affiliate links for buying Aeroplan miles – this is just a great deal.
This is a limited time offer and ends April 2nd, 2021
This is a tiered offer…in order to get 100% you need to buy a minimum
As you can see below…there are minimums for each bonus tier. I have seen the 100% bonus start at 50k miles though…mine was at 60kIf you were to max it out…you’d be sitting on 700k Aeroplan miles for $8400 USD
I think it is…shoot me a comment if you’ve seen better, but 1.2c is the best I can remember seeing.
Where I would use Aeroplan Miles
You can fly from the US to Europe for 70k miles. If you want to bake in a stopover…5k miles will do the trick. So, you could fly Swiss biz to Athens from LA, stop in Zurich for a few days, and then pop down for a total of 75k miles. That’s a really good deal.
US to South Africa for 85k each way.
US to Australia in Etihad first class for 140k
While 140k seems like a lot of points you could fly like this from the US to Abu Dhabi to Australia for under $1700 just buying the points. That’s insane. Although, who knows when Australia is going to open up to tourism again…I’m just trying to give you an idea of what could be done with the points.
