You can read the full WHO document pertaining to Masks here, but the biggest change is that the WHO now recommends that the public wear masks in pretty much any gathering situation.  In addition, those who are over the age of 60 or have underlying health issues should now wear medical masks ( those of us who live in California are quite aware that using any medical mask or respirator is a big no-no – we’re only supposed to wear cloth masks). Personally, I have little faith in anything the WHO publishes as long as Tedros leads it, and if I’m being honest, feel the entire organization needs an enema to restore credibility. Masks are something I’ve worn and advocated friends and family to wear for nearly 4 months now – in fact, I wore a mask in January when I arrived back in LA. But an update is an update is an update. So…here’s the update

This is the easiest table to read from the document

Honestly, please don’t publish anything they say. I mean nothing. They have ZERO credibility and even with your caveat, you lose credibility in my eyes by publishing anything they say. They are liars who are now advertising in many different places in order to regain trust. If a ‘health organization’ needs to advertise because they willfully lied about something that’s caused myriad deaths, to try and regain trust, then they should not be listened to at all, under ANY circumstance. I suggest you remove this post.

      Jeff

Totally understand where you’re coming from, but critically drawing attention to a problem is a crucial step in raising awareness, and hopefully evokes transparent change.

I am 65 and had a few N95 masks in the workshop. From day 1 whenever I’ve have gone out to replenish supplies I wore them (properly) every time. I rotated them and left them to air and get sun exposure between uses,

I never believed anybody saying they would help. It was just short supply and they didn’t trust us with the truth. Actually I was surprised anybody believed it.

Meant “never believed anybody saying they WOULDN’T help”

      • Miles June 7, 2020

Very smart Carl and glad you took those precautions

Idiots. Of course a medical mask is called for if you are over 60 and in a high risk group. I fall in that group, but if I understand Yale and the University of Pittsburgh research, blacks are about 3.5 times more likely to die from Corona so they are in my group, too. Part of that may may be due to high instances of asthma. In 2015, almost 2.6 million non-Hispanic blacks reported that they currently have asthma. HHS has published that African American women were 20 percent more likely to have asthma than non-Hispanic whites, in 2015. In 2014, African Americans were almost three times more likely to die from asthma related causes than the white population. In 2015, African American children had a death rate ten times that of non-Hispanic white children. Black children are 4 times more likely to be admitted to the hospital for asthma, as compared to non-Hispanic white children.
So why are we cheering on black protesters who have brought their children to participate in BLM protests with large numbers of unmasked people and no social distancing. They are playing Russian Roulette and it would be reasonable to expect that the protests will lead to more black deaths from Corona than from the police in 2020. The Washington Post (WP) has called the killing of blacks by police a pandemic, (incidentally 3 out of 5 people in a protest picture accompanying the article are not wearing masks) but I have yet to see them publish the 2020 numbers and how they compare to the numbers of blacks already killed by Corona. Per the WP, even George Floyd was found to have the virus upon autopsy. It is ironic that the virus was unable to kill George, but may slay many of the people who ignored masks and social distancing to protest in his name. I just can’t see George looking looking down right now and saying that is a great thing. The people now yelling “I Can’t Breathe!” may soon find that to be a reality. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, who has asthma, and all the rest of us who have ever been to an ICU for asthma know well that there will be many avoidable black deaths resulting from the protests and subsequent spreading of the virus further into the high risk black community.

Are you just as upset at our government which was warned about Corona back in January and chose to do nothing for months?

    • Miles June 7, 2020

Not just the US but I’d say governments around the world were exposed to be flat footed and bureaucratically shackled.

  • Howard June 6, 2020

Well, it’s only the first week of June, at least we cleared that up pretty early on to avoid hysteria. /s

I’m just going to wait for the official report that says ‘Whoops, yeah, uhm, this was about the same deadliness as the flu… we’re really sorry about all the commotion here, sorry, we got the math wrong… our bad….’
