I couldn’t believe my eyes yesterday when I saw it, and then the deal spread like wildfire across the bloggerverse. We fired off a post as fast as possible just to get the news out, and then proceeded to book our own tickets for a little over $600 to Bangkok, next week. For whatever reason, I had a great feeling about Hong Kong Airlines honoring the fare, and a little part of me thinks it was a genius marketing ploy on their end. Nonetheless, we’ve had confirmation from multiple sources that they aren’t going to pull a Ethiopian or a United and cancel tickets booked in good faith. Not only are they honoring, they let everyone know within 24 hours.

There’s been much debate about sales, error fares, mistake fares, etc. To me…the 24 hour rule that we, as consumers in the US, are bound to, should be the same with the airline. Fair is fair when it comes to fares, and we should all play by the same rules. I have 24 hours to cancel a ticket otherwise I eat it, etc. That’s another discussion for another time, but the current state of affairs whereby airlines can cancel tickets days, weeks, months after issuance and claim “error/mistake” is BS in my mind. For this matter alone, a lot of good will has been for Hong Kong Airlines as a brand.

Needless to say…I’m stoked to try this bad boy out.

This trip is going to be a looong weekend, but utilizing a weekend nonetheless 😉

We booked our tickets to Shanghai with a stop in Hong Kong. Is it possible to spend a day or two in Hong Kong without paying any fees? If yes how do I do it?
