Dell is throwing some serious incentives at consumers via Amex Offers, and if you wait until July 1st to take advantage of them, you’d be able to use your refreshed Amex Business Platinum credits as well. If you aren’t familiar with what I’m referring to, Amex Business Platinum refreshes Dell statement credits, which are $200 per 6 months for 2020, on July 1st. Since all 4 of my targeted offers expire after this date, I could use this credit to discount my purchase. I have been eyeing some of the OLED tvs that Dell offers, and with this latest 12k targeted bonus, I’m even more keen to purchase. But here’s the thing…both my fiancee and I have American Express Business Platinums ( in fact she has two), meaning we could get $600 in statement credits, 10% off, 5x earn rate, and 12k bonus points each. Let me walk you through my strategy.
Here’s a look at the various Amex Offers
Here’s a tv I’m currently considering…it’s $2300
Splitting the cost needs to be done to maximize the credits + 10% off, and the 12k points bonus that we can each qualify for. Remember that offers are tied to the card they are targeted to, so if you have 10% on one card but the 12k bonus on another, you need to configured your spend to max points and discount.
- Me: $1500
- $200 Dell statement credit
- 5x earn rate
- 10% off or $150 statement credit
- Spend $599 or more and get 12k points
- My total out of pocket – $1150
- My total points earned = 5x on $1150 or 5750 points + 12k = 17,750
- Fiancee: $800
- Payments will be split $200 and $600 to max statement credits and qualify for 12k bonus points
- $400 Statement credit on the other card with $950
- 5x earn rate on $600 = 3k points
- Spend $599 get 12k points
- 10% discount on $800 is $80
- Total out of pocket is $320
- Total earn is 15k points
Total for the Tv is $1470 with 32,750 points earned. Add on Rakuten for even more savings or bonus points
I could get a further 2x by using Rakuten which would equate to another 4600 points since the discounts are given in the form of statement credits and not point of purchase. This would put our total haul at over 37k points. At just 1.55c per points valuation, you’re getting an additional $579 back, putting the out of pocket cost for the tv at roughly $890. At a 2 cent valuation, you’re talking just $730 for a $2300 tv. Pretty outstanding.
There are tons of things to buy at Dell, but if you have been targeted for any of these Amex Offers, I’d highly look into stacking them to earn the most points you possibly can alongside the statement credits.
