Review: Lufthansa First Class Frankfurt to Los Angeles 747-8
What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than to give thanks to Lufthansa and their amazing policy of releasing First Class award inventory within 2 weeks of departure. Thanksgiving originated as a harvest festival – or so say the spirits of wikipedia – and that’s exactly what I did: harvested some Singapore Krisflyer Miles into a Mic dropping transatlantic experience. What’s even crazier than flying in Lufthansa First Class for 80k Singapore Miles and roughly $300 is that I was able to nab BOTH of the nose seats. This meant that Lufthansa First Class Frankfurt to Los Angeles 747-8 checked off a bucket list item of having a living room and a bedroom in the sky. BYAW! Where’s the champers???? It’s time to celebrate!!!!!!
The Deets on Lufthansa First Class Frankfurt to Los Angeles 747-8
- When: October 2016
- Airline: Lufthansa
- Route: FRA-LAX
- Plane: 747-8
- Duration: ~12 hours
- Class: First Class
- Seat: 1A and 1K ( what?! keep reading)
- Program: Singapore Krisflyer 80k + ~$300
The experience begins with a VROOM!
Yes, Miles is a sucker for a staged photo and YES, that’s my big bird in the background, and Yes we arrived by Porsche driven by a Chauffeur. See those first 4 windows. THEY ARE ALL MINE!!!!!!!!! [insert evil laugh]
After going up an elevator, cutting in front of the coach passengers ( very naughty that I enjoyed that so much muhahaha), down the jetway and turning LEFT you see this:
Double the pleasure, double the fun!
Meet my living room and bedroom
Get settled in and Sip some Champers.
As soon as you land at your seat they are all over you with the finer things in life like Champagne, silky Pajamas, and warm nuts. Every time I have warm nuts it reminds me of Ernest Borgnine. I shot a movie a few years back with Ernie and he was one of the most amazing people. He told me the story of a New York chestnut-roasting street vendor who was always happy. Ernie asked the guy why he was so happy roasting chestnuts, and the guy said, “I’m not trying to set the world on fire, I’m just trying to keep my nuts warm.” Ernie laughed and laughed and loved it so much that he actually titled his autobiography after the exchange. I think deep down in Miles’ psyche it’s why he wants to get into first and business class…so his nuts are warm.
What kind of champers, you ask? Laurent-Perrier “Grand Siecle” – YUM!
My Living Room
OH HELLO OVER THERE…See ya at 35k for some cuddles.
The Seat
If you notice, the seat is so bad a$$ that it requires a shoulder strap. They know you’ll get so excited they need to double buckle you in on take-off.
Yep, you have an ottoman and room to throw dem BOSE
You can light, tip, tilt, recline, supine, and divinely sublime yourself with just a push of a button.
While Miles and I pressed and prodded every button we were given our amenity kit which was the size of a small briefcase.
Oh yeah and pajamas which I went promptly to the bathroom to put on. The bathroom had a window which was great except for the feeling I was being watched by what I thought was a bird, no it was a plane, no it was…just Miles who was jealous I got my own PJs and he had to sleep nude.
If you wondering if I took more than one of those shave kits, the answer is yes…don’t judge me – free stuff is so hard to pass up!
Once changed, I dropped by my locker…oh yeah we had lockers because…why not?
Back to my seat and kickin’ it in my PJs we checked out the Wifi and reviewed our Menu. Which we promptly photographed from start to end.
The whole flight was just €17. That’s a hell of a deal.
Then it was time for take off – up and away we go…
Once we were airborne it wasn’t long before it was time to eat. Which obviously meant more Champagne and some Caviar.
The food was very good. I actually LOVED the Caviar and the Pasta was solid too. Having Caviar while sipping Champagne that costs over $100 a bottle is just plain ridiculous, but insanely ridiculous 7 miles up.
Now that my belly was full and no one had claimed the seat across from me…I asked if they could turn it into a bed.
She quickly raised the privacy screen and started to make the bed up.
I LOVED THIS BED. By far THE BEST I’ve had in the sky. Luxurious comforter, cushy pillow, and the pad they put down was great. The seat is amazing. Here are the deets from Seat Guru
After I was done with my sleepy time – it was back to the living room for some breakfast.
I enjoyed a little breakfast/lunch and peeked out the window at the sights. Mountains always make me laugh, probably because they’re hill areas.
Overall: This was everything I had hoped for and expected + A LOT MORE. It was spectacular and I didn’t want it to end.
I’m now trying to figure out more and more ways to get family and friends into this product because it’s so spectacular. Also… this pic pretty much captures how Lufthansa makes you feel: Feet up, Perfect Rose, and Karl Lagerfeld – cause seriously who is more Posh and German and fantastique than he?

I see there are 8 comments supposedly posted, but I only see one, so forgive me if I missed these details:
Are you saying that in order to book this trip, one must have the flexibility to book within 2-weeks out of departure? Thanks! 🙂
Hey Matt – Hmmmm – not sure why they aren’t showing up unless they are pingbacks. I think that having that flexibility will make it much easier to book. Fra to LAX is isn’t the easiest route to lock down either… Lufthansa typically releases quite a bit of award inventory inside of 14 days. That’s not to say you couldn’t snag a seat earlier, the odds are just much, much lower.
