Review: Marriott Park Lane, London – Old Money never felt so crisp

Squarely positioned at the corner of Oxford and Park Lane, the Marriott Park Lane, London accomplishes its mission: make an old money splash that wets the toes of a few Nuevo Riche. For 45k Marriott Rewards you can swath yourself in some Park Lane luxury, but not feel out of step with the times. From the check-in that pairs a citrus shot of fresh juice with decadent pieces of artisan chocolate – the Marriott Park Lane, London mixes the avant garde with the classic and scores a fan in this monkey.

Marriott Park Lane, London review is part of the NFL in London, Scotland, and Dublin Trip Report:

The Marriott Park lane is not the London Edition – it’s not a place to be seen, but rather a place to disappear.

Make no mistakes about it, The Marriott Park lane is about refined luxury – John Lobb, wooden soled, and leather healed luxury.  The rarely seen, never heard luxury, but always felt luxury that makes you feel like life should be lived on a cloud…gently whisping away. The entrance of the hotel is off Park Lane, missing the bustling traffic and although it’s in one of the busiest parts of the city, maintains a boutique feel from check –in onward.

Check-in

There are two stately desks atop the stairs. Manning each post is a clerk that feels more like a host than a desk agent. This reservation was actually booked using my Dad’s loyalty account. Since he is Platinum, there are a couple of ways this has gone in the past: either they extend the benefits of the account holder that booked it, or they don’t. Usually they extend the benefits, but with this particular hotel they won’t do that. As a result I provided proof of my Gold status. Once my Gold status was verified we were given a temporary key to the Club Lounge. It was only a little past noon and our room wasn’t quite ready so the Club was offered as passing refuge. This worked perfectly as we were headed off to the Colts game and just needed some snacks and coffee to hit the road with.

We were also offered these delicious chocolates and fresh juice.

The Club – Miles LOVES a good club level

Unlike the Grosvenor House which is less than 5 minutes walk down Park Lane and also a Marriott hotel and 45k/night this hotel is world’s different. The club itself is small, intimate, and feels more like a couple rooms in a home.  We grabbed a few little things and headed out. In the Morning we grabbed breakfast and there was a nice spread of goodies. The room that intrigued me the most was the Park Lane lounge area – a sweet spot where you could watch a game, have a beer, and still admire the bustling city out the window. HOW FORTUNATE this was ALL FREE!

The lounge is open from 6:30 Am to Midnight. As you can see below there are 4 different offerings throughout the day.

Since we were checking in around noon, we hit the lounge in between Breakfast and Afternoon Delights

Can a Room have SWAG?

On the first floor and midway down the hall we had a nice, upgraded superior room. Nothing in London is big, but what it lacked in size it absolutely KILLED in SWAG points. It was just lux on lux on lux. Miles even smiled at me and said “ Z…More lux, less bux” and I couldn’t agree more. For 45k points we were swaddling ourselves in some classy digs.

The Bathroom – I’d say OMG but OMMMMMMMMMMMMG is far more appropriate

Look at the marble. Look at the products: Floris. Look at the Toilet. Thank you Toto for Tototally making me feel like a roman emperor on his thrown…I hadn’t been this happy walking into a bathroom since I was at the Ritz in Tokyo last year and saw my first Toto. I’ve had a distant love affair with Toto ever since I confidently strolled Tokyo knowing that this magical, wand-enhanced porcelain deity had kept my business sparkling 😉 TMI? Anyways – I LOVED this bathroom even tho it was very small.

Fitness and Pool – BE- U – TE – FULL

MY GOODNESS! The pool is gorgeous. I wish I’d hadn’t been feeling under the weather because I would have rocked this pool. It was unbelievably inviting and the room was SOOOOOO WARM. I like my pool’s to mimic a bathtub, and I didn’t dip my toes in the water, I had a feeling it wasn’t going to disappoint.

The fitness center was nice, posh, and had the necessities. I didn’t use it and didn’t use any of the other spa facilities, but they were fantastic.

Overall: Miles and I felt like trust fund babies after we left

This is very dangerous in London…but once we checked out, said our goodbyes to the impeccably redone Marriott Park Lane, hit the curb, and saw real rich people we snapped out of it. But CAHMON?!?!  Can you blame us, we were staying at the Marriot Park Lane!!!! It’s gonna do that you….I mean, I almost summoned James to pull the car around, heat the pool at the country house and summon the hounds. Who does that? I’ll tell you – A guest who just spent a night at the Marriott Park Lane – for FREE…well 45k points 😉
