Updated: According to data from DOC this appears to be working for everyone with an IHG account. It was my initial impression you needed some sort of status to match, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Will keep you updated.
Yes, you read that right. I not only used hotel status, I used hotel status that I got just from holding a credit card. Have a guess? It’s IHG. I currently hold IHG Platinum status which I have as a benefit of the, now retired, IHG Rewards Select card, but could also be easily had through their new IHG Premier credit card. Doctor of Credit broke the news on an absolutely fabulous status match whereby you can match your IHG status into ANA’s mid-tier, Platinum status. I believe it’s YMMV, but I tried and was told I matched. There is no guarantee this will hold, but….Hopefully, I’ll be seeing you in the lounges until 2019!
Where does ANA Platinum place you within Star Alliance? Gold.
Miles, how do I do it?
Go here. You’ll see this:
Fill out the info. I was then told I would have the status in 4 to 6 weeks. There’s no guarantee it’ll work, but worth a try.
WHAM BAM i’m hoping to say thank you for the lounge access.
Since this Star Alliance Gold status is coming from a foreign carrier, I will get treated as if my domestic legs are actually foreign flights, and therefore, gain lounge access. Pretty awesome. Fingers crossed this goes through.
Miles, you spoke of the IHG Premier card and platinum status…can you explain.
Sure, the card comes with a slew of great benefits, and one of them happens to be IHG Platinum status for as long as you hold the card. Here are a few of the other benefits:
- 4th night free when redeeming points
- 20% of the purchase of points ( this represents an insane opportunity when miles drop as low as half a cent. Combine that with 4th night free and you’re amazing value)
- annual night certificate at hotels under 40k a night
- no foreign transaction fees…etc
- $89 annual
