UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain sever diplomatic ties with Qatar
This is breaking news and I’m not really sure what impact this is going to have on commercial aviation, but according to CNBC Saudi Arabia broke ties with Qatar saying it was doing what was “necessary to protect the kingdom from what it described as terrorism and extremism.” The UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, and the Maldives have also severed ties. Seeing as though Qatar Airways has air terminals in all of the named countries and does extensive business through those terminals its yet to be seen what this means. Here’s what we know:
Air and Land ties have been cut.
Bahrain is giving its citizens in Qatar 14 days to leave. It’s also banning its citizens from visiting or residing in Qatar after severing its ties, according to ZeroHedge
Emirates gave diplomats 48 hours to leave and their state news agency Wam used the following reasons, “support, funding and embrace of terrorist, extremist and sectarian organisations,”
The Maldives have cut diplomatic ties as has Egypt.
Saudi Arabia has cut diplomatic as well as all sea, land, and airspace relations.
