I have had a Chase IHG Rewards Select for years, and even though I carry the far superior, Chase IHG Rewards Premier, I won’t let go of this card. Why? One simple reason. The IHG Rewards Club Select offers a 10% refund on award stays as a benefit. It’s capped at 100k points a year ( that’s 1M points redeemed! ).
I recently got back from my honeymoon where I spent 5 glorious nights at the Six Senses Maldives.
It costs 100k points a night and because I have the IHG Rewards Premier I got a 4th night free. That knocked the cost down to 400k points for 5 nights.
However…because I still have the old IHG Rewards Select ( sorry its closed for applications ) I also received an additional 40k points back. It took roughly a month to process
That means I spent 360k points for a 5 night stay, or 72k points per night. Considering IHG often sells their points for 1/2 a penny per point, the out of pocket cost for the stay would have been $1800. Not bad for a room that ordinarily costs over $5k. The best deal is doing in blocks of 4 nights…which would have been just 270k points, or $1350, for a $4k stay. This is an extreme example, but
