Oasis Collections is a home-share company targeting the upper end of Airbnb properties with 2000+ properties across 20 cities. The concept is very similar: entice potential hotel guests to stay in an entire condo/house for the same cost as a hotel. They’ve set it up where you get premium bath products, reduced admission to museums, gym partnerships, local experts on demand, and the ability to earn points and elite night credits with Hyatt. Admittedly, prior to partnering with Hyatt, I’d never heard of Oasis, but now my interest is piqued.  Oasis adds a new dynamic to World of Hyatt ( I don’t think it’s salvation for the program), but if Oasis expands fast enough, I do think it will help Hyatt’s global footprint. One of the biggest obstacles to reaching top tier status is lack of rooms globally when compared to  Let’s take a look at the program.

The spiel

5 base World of Hyatt points per $ spent. Elites get the same bonus points per night as well.a piggy bank on a sink

15k points to get a $200 credit.

At first glance this is a TERRIBLE use of points. However, for $400, or 30k Hyatt points, you can stay in some insane Oasis places around the world. It, at the very least, becomes a debatable question of value.

But…this 3 bedroom, sun soaked Chicago condo, is $472 a night. You could check-in Friday and out on Sunday for 60k points and $144. Get a few friends together and pool points and you suddenly have a very cool place redeemed with points.

Here are the destinations that currently offer Oasis rentals

Currently the list is targeted, and rather short. But, having searched through a considerable amount of properties, they are pretty cool.

I did a quick search of places in Chicago…

If you’re a consultant needing to stay in Chicago for 30 nights, would you rather have a hotel room, or an entire apartment? If you could earn points at your local Hyatt, Marriott, etc – maybe you’d go with the hotel because when it comes time to take a vacation – you have status and a grip of points. However, with Oasis, the calculus is a little different. You could have space and earn points for your vacation in the future…

Overall

I think the changes to Hyatt’s Gold Passport program, now World of Hyatt, were seriously Draconian. Without expansion, or absorption of a brand, it’s too difficult to hit 60 nights with a company whose global footprint is a fraction of its competitors. However, I think partnerships like Oasis help to improve and expand the earning potential of the brand, and have a ramp up rate far greater than new hotel openings.  Airbnb was barely mentioned 5 years ago, and now you can find your pick of properties most anywhere. Will Oasis become that? Who knows, but at least families looking for rental properties on vacay can earn Hyatt points and status, and the same goes for business travelers who end up having long term stays and miss the comforts of a real home.

Unless you are totally points rich I think redemptions aren’t the ideal use. But…as a mentioned above, there could be reason to use the points for Oasis redemptions. While a hotel may get better $ value per point, if you need space, the value proposition has changed. A family may rather use their points to stay in a 3 bedroom condo and get just 1.33 cents per point because they get to stay together, have a kitchen, save money, etc. They may have needed a suite or 2 rooms – this at least gives them better ability to redeem Hyatt points ( and ultimate rewards) to perhaps better suit their needs.

I like the program, and think it could provide progressively increased value to World of Hyatt if Oasis successfully expands.

Just got back from using Oasis in Rome. Had a fantastic experience! Everything was first class. The property I requested was not available for the dates I needed, and they offered alternative properties that were available. Our Oasis “sidekick” (as they call them), was Marianna. She was like a super concierge. Made all of our taxi arrangements, made dinner reservations. Got us dinner reservations for a top rated difficult to book restaurant that we wanted to try with some friends. An overall great time, property was in great shape, good location and superb service. I really can’t wait to try Oasis again, and see if this is consistent for all of their locations, or if Rome just happens to have a great team.

      Hi Anthony:

We’re planning a trip to Rome this summer and want to use the Oasis service. Would you mind sharing the process/service/reliability of Oasis. We would not be using our WOH points. Thanks.

Curious if you could utilize 4th night Citi benefit on these properties? Do you know do you get stay credit towards world of Hyatt program?

    • Miles March 31, 2018

Applejax – Good question. I’ll have to investigate, but my instinct is that it would not – even though the partnership earns Hyatt points, the booking is still done using Oasis’s site. Unfortunately, my guess is Oasis wouldn’t register as a hotel…

I browsed some of the listings; sometimes there was quite a hefty cleaning fee added.

Booked a couple Oasis stays using points this Summer in European cities where Hyatt didn’t have options, or I would have had to book two rooms for my family of four. As you mentioned, having more space, kitchen, and varied locations really could make this a good move for Hyatt. So far the booking staff that we worked with (you can’t just book Lls online like AirBnB) have been fantastic. They answered questions about properties, gave advice on location, and told us bout deed amenities we’d receive. I’m excited to try out Oasis and will hopefully find it a great use of points for us.

Every single property in San Francisco for the dates I checked has a 30-day minimum…
