Not a bad way to be detained…
Since November, The Ritz Carlton Riyadh was not operating as a hotel, but rather as a prison to detain roughly 200 princes in an anti-corruption sweep carried out by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The remaining 50+ princes who are still detained have been transported out of the hotel, and as of yesterday, the doors are open to the public. The Ritz Carlton Riyadh is a category 1 hotel which means you can redeem Marriott Rewards/Ritz at 30k a night, or 10k SPG. I did a quick search of rates for next weekend. Points are avail, and cash rates? $700+ a night. Holy Smokes! One of the best Marriott redemption values I’ve seen 🙂 I don’t have any plans to go through Riyadh anytime soon, but if I ever end up here, I’m definitely swinging through for a selfie!
One of the more famous detainees, Alwaleed bin Talal, who has large stakes in multiple Fortune 500 companies gave a tour of his suite while he was there.
Looks like he was put up in a Royal Suite.
BOBO was upgraded to a Royal Suite this time last year…who’s video tour do you like better?
