$500 travel voucher and an apology
ICYMI, a few days ago a teacher, Jean-Marie Simon, had used miles to fly first class and somehow, without her knowledge, had her ticket mysteriously canceled while she was flying back home. To her surprise, U.S. Rep Sheila Jackson Lee, somehow ended up in her first class seat. United claimed that she had canceled her ticket in the app after a weather delay. Ms. Simon said she’d done nothing of the sort. The Congresswoman, from Texas, asserted that she hadn’t been given any special treatment and had just been upgraded automatically on the flight from Houston to D.C. I mean, cahmon, can you imagine members of Congress getting special perks from airlines. As if! You can read the whole story here. Last night, it appears United has offered Ms. Simon $500 travel voucher and a public apology. Simon probably wishes she’d taken an uppercut and been physically removed – rumor is that dude got 8 figures.
