First we saw this happen with Emirates transfers ( Amex and Cap1 are both 5:4 ) and sadly we’re now seeing Amex devalue transfers to Cathay Pacific. Beginning next March, the transfer ratio will drop. I use quite a few Asia Miles every year on British Airways redemptions ( Asia Miles have far lower surcharges ). This is not a good trend, and hopefully it doesn’t bleed into more partners and programs.
Effective March 1, 2026, the ratio for transferring Membership Rewards points to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles will be changed from: “1 Membership Rewards point = 1 Asia Mile” to “5 Membership Rewards points = 4 Asia Miles”.
