One of the sweet spots of the Avios program has been using it to book flights on American or Alaska within the US. It’s a great deal because every single transferrable bank currency has access to at least one of the Avios programs, and since you can transfer between the Avios programs, you de facto have access to them all. Years ago it cost just 4500 Avios to fly up to 650 miles, and over time that rates has gone up and up. Sadly, on July 4th, British Airways decided to devalue these redemptions even further and without notice. Honestly, it’s at the price now that the value once hidden in the program has been eliminated for domestic partner flights.
Is it all bad news?
No…you can book American and Alaska with various Avios partners. The Qatar Airways Avios award pricing is still in tact and since you can move between Avios programs quite easily, you can still utilize the Qatar advantageous award rates to book American and Alaska.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.
