Capital One continues to enhance their program. It’s been several years now since they moved from being purely a cashback rich ecosystem to one that has a great list of transfer partners. They’ve released better and better point earning cards, including the Capital One Venture X which I think is the best super premium card for most people. The program they’re building is straight forward and its easy to see how you can make your annual fee back in benefits or travel credits.

Early in 2023 the Capital One Premier and Lifestyle Collection properties went live…a clear competitor to American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Colleciton that Venture X ( Premier Collection ) and Venture X Business ( Premier Collection ), and Venture Rewards ( LIfestyle Collection ) cardholders could utilize. Those collections offer users property credits, upgrades, late checkout, breakfast, etc. It all depends on the property and the collection they’re a part of…and there are many more of those now.

Capital One is adding in Vacation Rentals a la Airbnb or VRBO except you’ll earn points like you would in the travel portal and certain perks and benefits. Homes are curated by the following companies:

What benefits do you get?

  • Earn 5x points on Premier and Lifestyle
  • 1:1 Redemption
  • Experience credits: A first-of-its-kind benefit in the industry, eligible cardholders have the opportunity to further enhance their stay with an experience credit to use toward a wide variety of amenities such as in-home chef meals, pre-arrival groceries, mid-stay property cleanings and more. Available to customers with each vacation rental booking, Premier Collection stays come with a $100 experience credit, and Lifestyle Collection stays come with a $50 experience credit.
  • Destination experts + support: Feel the peace of mind that comes with professionally-managed properties that offer local expertise as well as property support to ensure cardholders can get the most out of their stay.
  • Other premium benefits: Enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi along with early check-in and late check-out when available.

Which cardholders qualify?

Just like the hotel properties:

Premier Collection:

  • Capital One Venture X
  • Capital One Venture X Business

Lifestyle Collection

  • Capital One Venture X
  • Capital One Venture X Business
  • Capital One Venture Rewards
  • Capital One Spark Miles

What are some examples?

Capital One’s portfolio of vacation homes is currently available across 30+ markets nationwide, including Smoky Mountains, Charleston, Maui; Sonoma, CA; Hilton Head, SC; Breckenridge, CO; Berkshires, MA; and Austin, TX.   In the coming months, this inventory will be expanded to additional markets within the U.S., along with international destinations.

You can find it by selecting it in Capital One search “Vacation Rentals”

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex®  and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.

75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 spend in three months. I used this card recently to book airline tickets and ended up getting around 15-20% back as travel credits because the flight price dropped after booking. I like this card for the 2X points minimum on purchases, so I like to use this one when my other cards will only give me 1X points. I use it when I can’t get better point amounts on my other cards. It’s a great one to have, especially if traveling abroad since it can be challenging at times to find businesses to accept American Express at times.

More options are better than less. Any idea if the $300 credit applies for these?
