I just returned from a trip to the UK a couple of weeks ago and needed to complete a quarantine in order to visit. Even though I completed a faster version of the quarantine called Test to Release, it still took nearly a week before I was OK’d to freely roam. That has all changed.
Beginning Monday, August 2nd, at 04:00 BST US and EU travelers who are fully vaccinated will no longer need to quarantine in England, Scotland or Wales. Northern Ireland will consider those lifting restrictions on US/EU travelers who are fully vaccinated on Thursday – this is very likely to happen. Here are the specifics
- Must have both doses of a UK approved vaccine
- 2nd dose must have been administered 14 days prior to arrival
- You’ll still need to take either
- lateral flow test or PCR test pre-departure
- Another lateral flow or PCR test on 2nd day.
- Under 18 will be exempt from isolation, and depending on their age won’t have to test
The biggest caveat in all of this is France. Travelers from France who are double jabbed and meet the above requirements will still be required to quarantine according to the “amber list” rules.
