American is notoriously stingy with their premium cabin space, but lately we’ve seen some interesting options pop up. Last week we saw space open up on the Dallas to LHR route and vice versa. I’ve been searching for space to fly back from Hong Kong to LA and stumbled across some periods where there are large swaths of space available in both business and first class. Note…this route is serviced by American’s 777-300ER which features their best business class, and also offers PJs in business which is a great perk for such a long flight.

Here’s what business class will look like on the 777-300ER – check out our review.

You can redeem a number of currencies to access this space, but the best is utilizing Etihad. Their chart still prices these tickets at 62.5k and 67.5k, business and first, respectively. An absolute steal. Citi Thank You, SPG, and Amex are all partners.

As you can see…North America to Asia 2 is just 67,500 miles and just 55k Miles in Business.

While AA’s First Class isn’t normally regarded as being THAT much nicer than business class it does come with access to some of the best lounges in the world. Cathay’s The Pier and Wing. Also…

does Etihad charge fuel surcharge on AA redemptions? if so, how much roughly for the biz and first class flights? 67,500 for one way first class is def a steal.

just got off the lax-hkg AA flight, although the product is new to AA, great seat and new aircraft feel. there is Absolute no comparison between AA and Asian carriers like CX and BR. I would rather sit in an older seat and enjoy better meals and beautiful flight attendants than old wrinkle raisins White old ladies. and I havent even gone into the personal detail attention you would get from Asian flight attendants. if there is a choice and availability, I would choose the ladder any day.
