If you like…College towns, great beer, luxury hotels, and friendly staff – Get to the Edgewater!
Miles loved this spot. After a grueling redeye flight that was delayed in Chicago, we were ready to get to the hotel and R.E. to the LAX. That’s what we did. The Edgewater is a great spot to hole up, have some good grub and wash it down with local micro-brew. A good buddy of ours had recommended some fun things to do, but high on the list was where we were staying. Miles and I both flipping LOVE hotels, and LOVE when people take a chance on a hotel. That’s exactly what this hotel represents. Investors believed that if they plopped down over 100 million on a hotel renovation in Madison, Wisconsin that people would come. The Edgewater had been around since the 1940s and, even then, I have to say what a fantastic idea it was to put it in at the end of the frat row hahahahahaha! 70 years later, Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa can now intercept their debaucherous offspring making their way home as they have their eggs benny. Jokes aside, it is smack next to the campus and you can see the Capitol building when you exit the hotel.

The location is phenom.
Have I mentioned the location? BIZANG!
Check In:
No status here and everyone was friendly. The lobby isn’t at all what you’re normally accustomed to with high end hotels. It’s small, refined, has plenty of character, but doesn’t feel cavernous like some hotels aiming for grandeur. The Edgewater proclaims it’s grandeur in the understated, the culinary delights, wood trim, and sweeping views. No need to distract guests with a big marble laden lobby. They focus the attention on what they value: food, drink, views, and their combination.
Our room was located in the Wisconsin building on the 12th floor
The facilities of the hotel really center around the water view and food. And beer. Lots of beer
The Cafe: Get your Starbucks!!!
The boathouse: my fave
I had a few meals here and watched the Masters while trying out the local brew. It’s two floors with a dining area on the top floor and then a great bar on the lower level. Miles was absolutely dogged and took a nap. He was pretty jealous when I showed him my friend fish sandwich and delicious beer. 😉 The boathouse has great bar food, snacks, and in the evening has a good casual dining menu.
LOOK AT THIS VIEW! I MEAAAAANNNNNN CAAAHHHHHMMMMMOOOOONNNNNNN
The Hotel is fantastic. I had great food here, beautiful views, and the location couldn’t be better. If you want to visit your kids on campus, it’s right there. If you are looking a great spot for a staycation to wine and dine, it’s excellent. If you want a great spot within walking distance to great restaurants, the capitol, and entertainment district…it checks the box. I would highly highly highly recommend this hotel. So far this year, it’s been one of my favorite places!
