Meet United’s ConnectionSaver Tool
United’s ConnectionSaver Tool is tech, first introduced at Denver in February, that will automatically identify flights that can be held for connecting passengers, but still arrive on time for those who have already boarded the held flight. ConnectionSaver will also send texts to those who have opted in with clear instructions on how to navigate the terminal from plane to plane.
As I mentioned, they implemented the technology in February at Denver International, shortly thereafter expanding to Chicago O’Hare and claim to have boarded over 14k passengers that would have otherwise missed their connection. On average, flights were held just 6 minutes. The technology accounts for time between aircraft and the impact of holding the departing flight in order to assess whether or not it’s a viable option.
Here’s what Toby Enqvist, Chief Customer Officer at United had to say,
“Through improved technology and our dedication to running a reliable operation, customers with tight connections are making their flights. With summer travel picking up, as many as 150,000 customers will make connections on United flights every day and our goal is to provide our employees and these customers with the most up-to-date information to make connecting as stress-free as possible,”
Stressing the goal of increasing service, he went on to add,
“ConnectionSaver only works if it allows us to care for as many customers as possible – without inconveniencing others – and that’s exactly what this technology has shown it can do. We’re determined to capitalize on as many opportunities as possible to better serve and care for our customers and that’s part of what sets United apart from our competitors,”
I don’t fly United all that often, but if the only delay is 6 minutes, and they’re able to get 14k more passengers to their flights, and you’ll receive a map with directions between flights that include amenities…fingers crossed this thing works well as it’s a nice amenity.
The only thing I’d be interested to know is if the app tracks you while you commute from aircraft to aircraft and what’s done with that data.
