Back in March I received an upgrade offer on my Amex Gold to convert it into an Amex Platinum. That offer, which you can read more about below, included 10x US gas and US Supermarkets for 6 months + 25k membership rewards after hitting $2k spend in 6 months. I hit the min spend quickly and for some reason the 10x category bonuses weren’t populating. Like many in the comments section I was told that at the end of the 6 month period I’d see a lump sump populate.

Well, it hasn’t been 6 months yet, but the points have started to roll in….it looks like this on my Amex account

Have you seen any points populate?

A few weeks ago I accepted the offer on an Amex Platinum upgrade offer I’d received back in March. Included was not only a solid bonus for spending $2k in 6 months ( although some are getting up to 75k ), but the highly lucrative 10x on US Gas and Supermarkets. I just received my first statement, and they aren’t populating.

25k Amex Platinum Upgrade Offer I received in March

  • Spend $2k in 6 months earn 25k Membership Rewards
  • 10x at US Supermarkets and US Gas Stations for 6 months, up to $15k

These charges should have a 10x next them…they do not.

Not only do they not have 10x next to them… they didn’t earn 10x on the statement total either.  Usually throughout the month each charge that earns bonus points will have the earn rate next to the charge prior to the statement closing. None of my charges had those reflected so I was kind of anticipating something had messed up in the backened.

I reached out to Amex via Chat and they are looking into it – I’m also going to reach out to Amex on the phone and see if they have any further answers.

Obviously this could be an isolated incident that is only affecting my card. But…Amex has been exceptionally generous with upgrade offers that include the 10x and others could be facing a similar issue.

I’ll keep you updated on how this is resolved, but my hope is that once it’s corrected this month, I don’t have to itemize it each and every month for resolution.

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists the best ever offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.

I just got a email from them today apologizing about the back end mistake them logged in and saw that in fact they had put a credit on my account for next billing

So I took advantage of the 25K bonus miles + 10x on groceries upgrade promotion. My statement just closed and I have two bonuses showing up when I log into Membershiprewards.com. The first is the 25k bonus for meeting the minimum spend ($2k) and the second is labeled “Plat 25/2k/6mos plus 10x UG” and reflects I think the 9x bonus points on gas and grocery since I opened the card. It appears you get the bonus with the closing of your monthly statement or at least that is the case for me.

Any updates? Same thing happening fo rme

  • hanchicago July 6, 2021

    Any update on this situation?

    I’m in a similar boat.

An Amex CSR told me I should wait 8-12 weeks after the grocery or gas transactions for the extra 9X points to show up. So, some of those should show up soon for me.

I’ve seen in some other forums that some folks have been told they would need to wait until after the minimum spending threshold was met or even the first six months were up to get the full bonus (the 25K or 75K bonus for upgrading to Plat after $2K spend and the 9X extra for completing grocery/gas spend during the first six months).

I double-checked my upgrade offer did not have any lifetime language buried in its T&Cs also. So, that shouldn’t be the issue.

Im having the same issue, and I’m getting conflicting info from Amex — some are saying i need to wait 8-12 weeks, others are saying I need to wait until the end of the 6 month period.
    Someone messed up somewhere 🙁

  • AMANDA June 8, 2021

I was told that I would have all of them added up at the end of my 6 months which I thought was crazy because there’s a cap to the bonus offer and if I’ve reached it I’ll use another rewards card that gets more points at supermarkets/gas stations.

  • JT June 3, 2021

Same thing with my upgrade. Have not received any of the upgrade bonus points or the 10x on Gas/Grocery. Was told to wait the 8-12 weeks to see it posted and they cannot expedite it. Im at week 9..fingers crossed it gets resolved.

    • Aaron June 7, 2021

I just got off the phone with Amex after calling and chatting with them back in April when I first realized that I wasn’t receiving the bonus of 9x additional points for gas and groceries. I expected to wait 8-12 weeks for the bonus points after reaching the spending threshold. Once again they are telling me that an offline team will review it. I’m just glad that I am not alone. I seriously considering downgrading after this fiasco.

  • Al C May 31, 2021

As I mentioned on your other post; mine didn’t post either. My upgrade offer didn’t look like it mentioned anything about not getting the bonus if I’d had the card before, but I’m told it was there in the fine print. So no bonus for me…

  • Jane May 31, 2021

Similar issue with Business Platinum. Applied and approved for Amex Business Platinum. 5x Gas and cell phone bill. Not tracking. Called Amex, and the agent oblivious. Jane

  • Mark May 31, 2021

In the post, you say you are also going to call Amex. Why not post after your call?

  • Larry May 31, 2021

Same here. I upgraded at the end of March and received neither the bonus for 2k spend nor the 10x on any grocery or gas. They say I have to wait 12 weeks. Only been 9 but given how fast spend bonuses usually post there is pretty clearly a problem here. They just won’t do anything yet.

  • Matt May 31, 2021

They don’t post as 10X. You’ll receive a 9X bonus on that spend 2-3 days after the transaction posts.

  • Will May 31, 2021

Thanks for pointing this out. I’m having the same problem. They said wait 8-12 weeks and then reach out again.

  • John May 31, 2021

They told me it gets added after the 6 months is up
