Quick update to let you know that American Express has a 40% transfer bonus to Hilton Honors. Usually Amex to Hilton is 1000 Amex points nets you 2000 Hilton Honors. Until June 15th, 2021 – 1000 Amex will net your 2800 Hilton Honors.
Should I transfer Amex to Hilton Honors?
This is a great question. I value Amex points at nearly 2 cents a piece, and Hilton Honors at about 4/10 a piece. So…even getting the normal 1:2 is usually a terrible redemption in my opinion. HOWEVER…there instances in which this isn’t the case. Really expensive hotels that take Hilton points. Let’s look at one as an example: The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills
You can find dates that are 95k Hilton points a night.
Room rates are nearly $700 without tax
It would take just over 34k Hilton Points per night
Factoring in 5th night free for Hilton Honors Elites
If you have Silver, Gold, or Diamond status with Hilton you’ll get a 5th night free when using points ( as long as points are available all 5 nights ). This would mean you could stay for 5 nights for just 136k Amex points. That’s pretty amazing considering the cash price for the stay would be over $4k.
Don’t forget that you get Hilton Gold status as a perk of American Express Platinum.

Crunch the numbers but be aware that a bonus is in effect
I don’t think you’ll extract the same kind of value as illustrated above if you’re looking at a Hilton Garden Inn. But, with that said, there are instances that utilizing your Amex points for Hilton redemptions that could make sense on a pure valuation standpoint.
