If you were like me and recently signed up for the Amex Platinum Mercedes Benz charge card, you are not only carrying around a small weight lifting set, but also a key to unlocking unique benefits that other Amex Platinum cardholders don’t have. Case in point, the $100 gift certificate good on genuine Mercedes-Benz accessories. This gift certificate is processed after you make your first qualifying purchase and mailed out 6-8 weeks after earning it. Let’s take a look at the restrictions, but also some of the things you can pick up with it.

The terms and conditions stipulate the following:

  • may only be used at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership
  • may NOT be used for purchases on the Mercedes-Benz website
  • may only be used by you or someone with valid proof of residing at the address printed on the cert
  • must be presented in person at the dealership
  • must be accompanied by proof of identification
  • may only be used for the purchase of accessories ( not parts or service)
  • may not be used for previous purchases
  • may not be combined with any other offers
  • expires 1 year form the date of issue
  • has no cash value
  • may not be transferred

So what can you buy with it?

Our buddy, Harlan, over at Out and Out has an amazing set of pictures featuring the items that were available at his local Benz dealership. That list includes:

  • Golf Balls
  • Hats
  • Golf Shirts
  • Button Down Shirts
  • Tumblers
  • Coffee Mugs
  • Key Chains
  • Key Rings
  • License Plate holders
  • Teddy Bears
  • Coolers
  • Water Bottles
  • Protein Shake Mixers

I’ll update this post once my cert is mailed to me, but I’m certainly excited to make use of this unique perk.

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

I tried to pick up 2 Nike polo shirts at $55 each, but they said the certificate can only be used on “boutique” products. Basically the water bottles and trinkets. I passed on that offer to see if another dealership will sell me a couple shirts.

They can also order anything out of their online catalogue. I got a pair of $80 sunglasses and a NIKE workout shirt. It took a few weeks to get my order into the dealership.

Prepare to be underwhelmed by what you can get. We used my wife’s this past weekend and all we came away with were 3 different types water bottles. The golf shirts were pretty cheap looking. Regular shirts were not things I could see myself wearing. There was a keychain for $60. A dozen golf balls was over $60 as well.

Super. I forgot about this benefit. Hubby and I got the card last day it was offered. We’re kinda swimming in points but too good of a deal to pass up. 2k Amex points for $50 spend @ Amex was a nice welcome offer.
$550 less 2 x $200 travel (’18, ’19) $100 MB Mdse coupon, 60k points, one more card for Amex promos, Global Entry credit (having a hard time finding someone who doesn’t have it already…) = all good stuff.
