How you can tell which Korean Air business class you’ll get

Korean Air has some of the best award availability for premium cabin tickets.  Their First Class has recently been updated and installed on the 747-8i and looks pretty awesome. In addition to First being updated, their business class ( Prestige Suites) is new and looks quite amazing.  If you look on the Korean Air website they only advertise the new Prestige Suite on two aircraft: 747-8 and A330. However, it appears that they are retrofitting some of their 777-300s with the new business class cabin as well. So how can you tell which Korean Air business class you’ll get?

Where does Korean Air fly to in the Americas?

I’ve been in the midst of planning a trip to Asia for new years. Korean Air is high on the list of options, but I’m not sure I want to drop the UR to land 1st class, and I also don’t want to fly their Prestige Sleeper. Miles is an all-aisle access snob, sue him. BUUUTTTT the new Prestige Suite looks amazing…and has all-aisle access.

Korean Air business class

Currently the 747-8i services JFK, HNL, and SFO

This is the only aircraft that services the United States that Korean Air advertises as being fitted with the new Prestige Suites. But, upon further investigation, it appears certain 777-300ers are fitted with the new business class as well.

I use SeatGuru to check cabin configuration

There are two different cabins currently on SeatGuru. One is 2-3-2, the other 2-2-2

  1. 2-3-2Korean Air business class

If you see this configuration: you will get Prestige SleeperScreen Shot 2016-09-06 at 8.47.03 PM

  2. However, if you see 2-2-2Screen Shot 2016-09-06 at 8.50.26 PM

Then you will get Prestige SuitesKorean Air business class

Recap:

Before you book the flight you’ll be given the option to select seats. Depending on which cabin configuration you have been offered you can determine which business class product the plane’s been fitted with.

Just FYI KE uses the 748i to HNL and SFO and I can honestly say as a ground agent that this aircraft is beautiful and blows the rest of the fleet out of the sky in every class. I would gladly pay more to fly the 748i.
