I’ll cut to the Chase 😉 here are the broadstrokes of the double dip. Chase Freedom is offering 5x on Chase Pay as part of their 4th quarter category bonus and you can earn a HUGE Starbucks bonus by using Chase Pay to load your account. Since my Freedom is linked to my Chase Pay – I’ll be earning 5x + 475 points after adding $60 to my Starbucks account. Additionally, it’s being reported that certain Chase Sapphire/Reserve/Freedom Unlimited members are being targeted for 1500 bonus UR.

Here’s the Freedom double dip.

You’ll earn the 475 points if you load with any Chase Pay account in fact, if you don’t have a Freedom you can still double dip if you’re targeted with the 2nd offer below (read details below).

Terms.

  • Freedom – 5x on anything involving Chase Pay
    • remember Freedom is cashback so you’d only pick up UR if you also keep a UR earning card in your wallet.
    • Must register by 12/15/18 and ends 12/31/2018
  • 475 Starbucks Stars
    • Must use Chase Pay
    • $20 +
    • Done by 12/12/19
      • 1 time = 125 stars
      • 2 times = 275 stars
      • 3 times 475 stars

Others are being targeted for another 1500 bonus points

As reported by DOC it looks like a lot of Sapphire Preferred/Reserve and Freedom Unlimited cardholders have been targeted for another Chase Pay bonus: 1500 points after 5 purchases of $25 or more. This could also be done at Starbucks and a number of other retailers – valid through 12/31/18

This could be a double dip opportunity as well if you didn’t have a Freedom but were targeted for this. If you loaded your account with $125 you’d earn the 475 Starbucks Stars plus the 1500 bonus UR.

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists the best ever offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex®  and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.

We loaded $20 on the Starbucks app via Chase Pay to start working toward that offer, then rec’d the 1500 UR offer right after loading, so we didn’t hit one of our 5 $25 purchases toward the 1500 UR bonus…you did not misstate but to hit both at once, load Starbucks 3x’s at $25, then you only need to find 2 more Chase pays @ $25 to be done.

  • Kory November 2, 2018

Note: load $25 on your Starbucks App at a time to double dip vs. $20 minimum.

Hey Kory – Can you point out where I misstated it so I can correct it? The first double dip only requires $20 or more and can be done with Chase Pay intra Starbucks app. the 2nd one requires $25+ 5 times for the 1500 UR – thank you!
