DOC pointed out that The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve will both get some new perks and bonus categories. It seems this is a response to Amex adding their own set of statement credits and bonuses ( Personally I think Amex did a better job). Let’s take a look at how you can earn up to 10x on certain category bonuses:

If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred – valid July 1st until September 30th

Note that will earn the bonuses on up to $1500 on COMBINED purchases.

  • Gas Stations
    • 3x on purchases
  • Select Streaming Services
    • 5x on purchases
    • Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, Sling, Vudu, Fubo TV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube TV.
  • Instacart
    • 3x
    • 3 months free on the monthly plan…$9.99 credit for 3 months

If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve – valid July 1st until September 30th

  • Gas Stations
    • 5x on purchases
  • Select Streaming Services
    • 10x on purchases
    • Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, Sling, Vudu, Fubo TV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube TV.
  • Instacart
    • 5x
    • $50 statement credit against annual instacart Express membership

Overall:

If you hold either of these two cards you now have more options to earn a higher rate of return on your purchases. I would note that the Amex Platinum also has a $20 per month statement credit against streaming services so it may be wise to utilize the Sapphire bonuses alongside the Amex credits to maximize discount and rate of earn.  We have been using Instacart a lot, and I know that earning 5x is pretty awesome, as is that $50 Express discount. My fiancee carries a Reserve and we will be looking to push Instacart via her card.

What is interesting, the pay yourself back categories don’t appear to have changed…

“””Currently, the categories for pay yourself back are: grocery stores and dining at restaurants (including takeout & eligible delivery services), and home improvement stores. Redeem for purchases in these categories made with your Chase card with Ultimate Rewards.

After each purchase posts, you have 90 days to pay yourself back.” ****

    And I’m fine with that!

How would you combine the Reserve and the Amex Platinum to Pay for the streaming services? Wouldn’t you have to use one or the other?
