I haven’t stepped foot on an Alaska plane this year, but I’ve flown several times with Alaska miles on both BA and American. In fact, I’ve flown BA First twice this year and American Business twice…all four times in/out of London. I was curious how these flights would credit…would we get any kind of bonus for a higher cabin? No. That’s the short answer. H/T to FM for flagging this development.

We had to wait a long time to find this out though since Alaska wasn’t populating any of the elite miles on partner award bookings. This is a new feature of the Alaska 2025 program, and a big reason why I transferred a shed load of Amex to Hawaiian to Alaska and also have signed up for Hawaiian credit cards. I could get great deals on flights + now we know…score 1:1 credit on every mile flown when we book a partner flight with Alaska miles which will help us earn elite status in One World.

Anywho, here’s an example of a BA First Class flight from LHR to ATL that I booked with 82.5k Alaska miles.

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

Can you pls explain (like I am 5) about the flights on AA and BA booked thru Alaska? You booked with AK miles. But then did you add the trip to your AA app? It’s confusing. What is the correct sequence to maximize rewards when you book a flight on an AA plane using AK miles?

Also, I noticed when I have booked an AA domestic flight using AK miles I am not offered the option to upgrade to First (as I often am when I book an AA flight using AA miles).

I have a domestic AA flight next week that I booked using AK miles and I cannot figure out how to upgrade. Called AA, they said call AK. Called AK, they said no seats were offered to them to book with awards…..
