First Impression of Vietnam

I’m absolutely loving Saigon. The people are amazingly friendly, the FOOD the FOOD the FOOD is incred, and the energy is undeniable. I’m looking forward to exploring the city more, seeing the Cu Chi tunnels, and seeing the difference between the north and south as we venture to Hanoi. More to come, but so far – this country is shooting up to the top of my faves in Asia. My First Impression of Vietnam is Mind. Blown.

Just returned from Saigon and Hanoi. Agree very interesting and the energy is amazing. The tunnels were fascinating. I’m much older than you and your friend and I found the stress of navigating crossing the streets with the motorbikes wearing. Also, as a former auto safety lawyer, I find it super irritating that many, if not most, of the taxis in Saigon we encountered had destroyed the back seat seat belts, even when the driver was wearing one. The situation was considerably better in Hanoi. But I learned so much about the Vietnam War, or American War as it is referred to in Vietnam. It really gave me a different perspective about how long the Vietnamese had fought foreign aggression and how determined they were. Understand more the reverence for Ho Chi Minh. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

Hey Kate – thanks for all that info! I totally agree with you on navigating the streets – HOLY COW! It’s pure insanity, but somehow we never once saw or heard an accident. Also agree with learning about a completely different perspective…Looking forward to investigating Hanoi too.
