Let’s get together to help those less fortunate.

Travel has made a great impact on my life, and I’ve been extremely blessed to see many parts of the world with those I love. Writing this blog every day it’s very easy to get wrapped up in bonus points, spend requirements, and lose sight of the reasons that I fell in love with travel.  The biggest being connection. There is no better education than experience and travel gives experience like no other.  You soon realize how connected we are as people, that the same needs and desires that we yearn to achieve are universal. While many of us are lucky enough to worry about being happy or fulfilled, the basic needs and desires such as housing, clean water, and food are unfortunately uncertain for many across our planet. The following event is a small way that we can use our passion for travel/points to give back and help those who truly need it.

Check your calendars. October 26th-28th.

Regular readers may be aware that we have just launched the MonkeyMiles luxury concierge. Jenny, one of our travel consultants, contacted me recently to advise of an event she organizes each year that gives you the perfect excuse to head to London for the weekend: benefiting the needy.

London DO

Those of you who read Flyertalk may be familiar with the concept of a Do – a meeting for those who love to travel.  Jenny has been organizing the London Do for the past 6 years, with support from American Express and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. This year, the event will be held at the Andaz London Liverpool Street from October 26th-28th. A number of activities are organized, including a welcome reception sponsored by the hotel…

Andaz Masonic Temple. YES, PLEASE

But I am most excited about the Saturday night gala dinner in the stunning Masonic Temple (yes, you read that correctly – the hotel has its own working masonic temple!). The night starts with English sparkling wine reception, then proceeds with a 3-course dinner with wine. During dessert, a charity auction takes place to raise money for HUSK Cambodia, who support families living near Siem Reap with housing, education and sanitation. Through the event, Jenny and her husband Andy have raised over $20,000 for HUSK -This September a group is traveling to help physically build one of the homes they raised funds for last year.
In addition to offering a great rate, the Andaz are also providing bonus points to those who stay at the hotel for the event. The dinner and reception is sponsored by AMEX, though a deposit is required to attend, which is either used towards auction credit or a donation to HUSK.

Top Secret Auction Items. But Park Hyatt Maldives/Vienna, etc in the past 🙂

The items for the auction remain top-secret at present, but expect vouchers for luxury hotels around the world. Previous items have included 3 nights in the Barai, Hua Hin, Thailand; 3 nights in the Park Hyatt Maldives, 2 nights in the Park Hyatt Vienna, Austria and 3 nights in Andaz Mayakoba Resort, Mexico.
