Transfer Marriott Bonvoy Points to another member

I recently transferred points to my buddy so we could book the new JW Marriott in Masai Mara. Neither of us had enough points in our accounts to make the redemption we needed, but since I manage my account, my wife’s, and my parents accounts, I had ability to transfer points from various accounts into his in order to make the booking. I thought it’d be beneficial to lay out the rules of transferring points, since it’s a relatively new thing that can be accomplished online. So, without further adieu, here’s how you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy Points to another member’s account.

Go here to transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points to another member

It’s very simply, just click the link up above, and fill in the information below. You’ll receive a text/email asking you to confirm the transfer, and voila, the points will move.

Your account will show the transfer as points sharing:

I visited the St Regis Instanbul earlier this year and could have done the same thing

How many points can I share in a calendar year?

100k points total. This isn’t to a single account, but rather in aggregate across all accounts you transfer points to in a calendar year.

  • Calendar year = January through December

Theoretically if you wanted to give someone 200k points within 24 hours, you could do so on December 31st, and then again on January 1st.

If you had 100k points in your account, another member could merge 100k, and you could potentially stay 5 nights in NYC for 200k points. Pretty great way to make use of transferring points and staying in an expensive city

How many points can I receive in a calendar year?

You can receive multiple point transfers into a single account, but the maximum you’re allowed to receive is 500k in a calendar year. So, if you’re having a wedding, and you’d like contributions, you could receive, at maximum 500k points in a January to December year.

The Grosvenor House London is one of my favorite London Properties and you can often find find between 50k and 65k per night.

Your account needs to be open either 30 or 90 days

In order to transfer or receive points your account needs to have been open a minimum amount of time.

  • With Activity: 30 days
  • Without Activity: 90 days

Activity is defined as such here and if you transfer points into your account from Amex, Chase, etc that will qualify.

Members can remain active in the Loyalty Program and retain accumulated Points by earning Points or Miles, redeeming Points, or purchasing Points (as described in 2.9) in the Loyalty Program at least once every twenty-four (24) months

I used Marriott points to stay at the Mena House in Cairo…look at these views!
