Insane deal: Fly LAX-ORD <$150 R/T on 787 or 777-300ER

I was playing around with the ITA Matrix last night when I found these incredible deals on LAX-ORD and ORD-LAX. There are several dates well below $150 and tons below $200 roundtrip. While not all of these routes are non-stop, nor are they all featuring wide body aircraft…there are a lot of different options, and many include the wide body planes.

At $111 for a quick turnaround the LAX-ORD route makes for a great mileage run opp

In addition to this, LAX-ORD is being serviced by American’s 777-300ER and 787. On the 777-300ER you can actually sit in business class for the price of main cabin extra. If you’re an elite….it’s FREE!

Fly the 787!

Since the 787 is a 2 cabin plane it sells it’s business class as a domestic first class product. If you end up getting upgraded to first class you will enjoy the international business class on a domestic route. Or if you just buy the first class seat, you will lie flat. YESSSSSS

Or fly the 777-300ER, the ’77W’

I just posted an article about the 77W flying from ORD-LAX and I’d written an article earlier in the year detailing the option to sit in business class on a domestic flight for the price of economy. The reason that Airlines do this is to position the aircraft for another International leg. American started flying LHR-ORD earlier in the year and they need to get the 77W to LAX for another route: perhaps to Asia or Australia. When they fly this route between New York and LA and Miami and LA they can sell the planes as a true 3 cabin product. However, LAX-ORD isn’t a route that can support 3 cabins. Because the route only sells 2 cabin aircraft, and the 77W is a 3 cabin plane, it classifies the international business class as main cabin extra – this is a huge opportunity to fly an incredible product for a discounted price.

The biggest difference is you don’t get the soft product benefits you’d typically get when the plane is used internationally, or as a true business product: so no pillow, blanket, meal, etc. I absolutely love the 77W business class, but if you’re lucky enough to get upgraded on this route…you’d end up flying in international first class…domestically. Unreal.

LAX-ORD and ORD-LAX

And the product itself:

I love the 77W business class product. This is how it is used internationally with all the amenities. On the domestic route it wouldn’t include all of the fringe benefits, but you’d still enjoy the seat.
