How you could get theoretically earn Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status in just 10 nights.

There are 4 Marriott credit cards that come with 15 elite nights as a perk of card membership. 3 of the cards are personal credit cards and 1 is a business card. If you were to hold concurrently hold 2 of those cards, you’d earn 30 elite nights per year, leaving you just 20 nights shy of the valuable Platinum status. With this promo…you’d only need 10 nights since they yield double elite nights.

Marriott credit cards come with some complex rules and if you don’t have either a personal or business Marriott credit card and you’re thinking of making a run for Platinum via this route, the only way to do with and get welcome offers is via both the Amex cards.

If you want to learn more, no one has a better explanation of the rule than Frequent Miler, but I will say that currently the offers aren’t anything to write home about especially when compared to the monster deals released last fall. So keep that in mind.

Chase has two cards

  • Marriott Bonvoy Bold
  • Marriott Bonvoy Boundless

Amex has two cards as well

  • Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express
  • Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express

Platinum status as a card benefit?

For the last 4 to 6 months there have been rumors that Marriott and Amex are planning to overhaul the Brilliant card. Now…this hasn’t really been verified, but part of that rumor is including Platinum status as a benefit along with

Overall

This is a great promo if you have nights where you’ll rest your head in Marriott beds, and if you’ve positioned yourself with Marriott credit cards to start the year off at 30 elite nights, this could be a great opportunity to seal your re-qualification year up.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex®  and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.
