POP: KLM Business Class 777-200 Singapore to Bali
We had specifically routed through Singapore from Beijing so that we could all experience Singapore Suites together. It made the routing to Bali a bit longer, but it was WELLLLLLLL worth it. After an incredible flight we spent a night at the Crown Plaza Changi ( Singapore’s Airport) and we were due to head to Bali at 4:50 pm and arrive at 7:25. Unfortunately, we woke to news that our flight had been delayed departing Amsterdam and would arrive 5 hours late. What a bummer. This meant we wouldn’t arrive at Mandapa until after midnight. The plan had been to enjoy a nice dinner at the hotel upon arrival, but that was soon nixed. Here’s a look at KLM’s business class 777-200 from Singapore to Bali.
Boarding was absolutely chaotic.
This is a pic of the main business class cabin from the flight back from Bali to Singapore. Even though we were in business and had priority boarding, the outbound flight to Bali allowed a lot “family boarding.” I’m not hating on pre-boarding with infants and toddlers, but when you have kids that are 6 to 15 years old…me thinks you’re working the system. By the time we boarded, the cabin was quite full…with not so many little kids and lots of opportune adults.
KLM’s 777-200 Business Class features a B/E Diamond. It also has a single row “mini cabin” that we all enjoyed. Row 6 if you’d like it.
We didn’t use points for this flight. It can be had for $300-$400 roundtrip in business and lasts only 2 hours and 15 minutes. Had this not been a super special birthday for my mom we probably would have opted for a Garuda Indonesia flight earlier in the day, but I wanted her to fly the best possible way on every route. This is the only lie-flat option from Singapore to Bali.

The seat is the exact same as on the American Airlines A321T which operates transcon in the states.

Not going to lie…the food left much to be desired.
I fly mainly on American Airlines domestically in the states. Their food in first class is straight up good these days. What’s crazy to me is that passengers who flew from Amsterdam to Singapore and then on Bali paid a lot of money, or redeemed some healthy points, to get there. KLM needs to step up their food game to truly compete.

The flight was fast, the IFE worked, it wasn’t too $$, and the staff was very nice. For a long haul product, the seats don’t provide much privacy at all, but both directions I had quite friendly seat-mates. For this short a flight I’d recommend KLM especially if you can snag it for $300…I ended up crediting it to Alaska Airlines to help get me closer to re-qualifying for MVP 75.

That food is only available for KLM routes to Indonesian destinations e.g. Jakarta & Bali which is managed by Farah Quinn, an Indonesian celebrity chef. For SIN-AMS route, I would think that they have different menu for that.
I think I got the point that KLM wants to cater to majority passengers in these routes and also to introduce Indonesian cuisine to some.

Why??? I’ve flown Singapore – Bali Business Class on SQ multiple times and they have all been good flights.
I’ve also flown Business Class on Garuda, which was also excellent.
What makes KLM Business better than SQ and Garuda?
Hey Jason – I haven’t flown SQ or Garuda on that route, but when I was pricing them Gaurda was coming in $150-200 more expensive and Singapore was double. Neither fly a 777 nor have lie-flats. The flight is so short I’m not sure biz is really that needed, but that was the basis for the rec.
If Garuda and Delta are significantly cheaper, then I would definitely choose KLM too.
I was not aware of that price difference. It is a short flight, so even if Garuda and SQ were better, in my opinion it does not make much of a difference for such a short flight.
For me personally, a lie flat seat is meaningless for any flights under 5 hours.
I also agree that flying business for this route is not necessary, especially if you are treating your parents or flying for a special occasion. Business Class for this route is usually double the price of economy.
my last flights on KLM and BA -the food not edible… good thing i had eaten before boarding…
