One of the hardest routes to land in business class is between the USA and New Zealand, but sometimes, just sometimes the gates open and voila…the space is there. If you’re willing to travel this August, there are plenty of dates to do it roundtrip.

Here’s a look between AKL and LAX

LAX and AKL

SFO and AKL

You can book with a few different programs:

By far the best deal is if you can get Virgin Atlantic to find the space. One way is just 62.5k and there is a 30% transfer bonus from Amex. So yes…this means just 48k points. However, I can’t say I’ve ever booked it, so theoretically it’s possible, but in practice…?

Other deals are…

  • United at 90k
  • Aeroplan at 80k
  • Avianca at 80k

You can also book with Singapore, Etihad, or ANA as well, but they’ll run you a ton more miles.

Here’s a sneak peek at the cabin.

    Zach,

Thanks for your post. I just scored two R/T tickets for 360K points and $192 on United! I have a friend who is working there for at least a year and we’ve been looking for a way to visit. Even though August is the middle of their winter I just couldn’t pass up the 90K pp/ow opportunity for business class! Couldn’t find a way on Virgin Atlantic however.

My pleasure! Happy you scored a great deal, and yeah…that Virgin booking is almost theoretical
