Review: Cathay Pacific The Pier Lounge Hong Kong
Cathay’s The Wing lounge is quite extraordinary, but the new kid on the block is The Pier. So after my dad finished his shower in the Cabana suite, and my mom and I had a quick bite in the The Wing’s private restaurant, my Dad and I headed over to give The Pier a quick gander. It’s about 15-20 minutes away from The Wing. On the way there we took the train, on the way back we just walked it. And by walked it…I mean we looked like professional mall walkers sans the sweatbands. The whole experience of hustling there, snapping photos, and getting back to my mom was a TON of fun to do with my dad. It was like a mission. We only had about an hour to get there, get back, get mom, and get to our next gate. CUE the Mission Impossible Music.
We made it! All the way to gate 65. Let’s go downstairs and check it out
- When: April 2017
- Where: Hong Kong
- How: Dad – First Class ticket, Me – One World Emerald
We’d both had our boarding passes stamped at The Wing…so we just needed to flash em to gain entry.
DAAAAANG! My dad and I looked at each and then Miles blurted it out, “Guys…this lounge is sexy. Look left, look right, up, down – I can’t wipe the smile off me face.” Miles normally is more of a thinker and doesn’t verbalize much, but my Dad and I both heard it. He even used an Irish accent…who knew?
Head to the left…there is a pantry. Such a smart idea. Grab and go.
My dad and I grabbed some fluids…we were certainly low on electrolytes. This luxurious travel blogging lifestyle can take its toll on the body. Rehydration? Check.
BEAUTIFUL BAR and Sitting areas.
I was kind of surprised Miles asked the bartender to go stand in the corner. We’ve been working with a Dr. to try and understand the root of Miles’ narcissism, but all we can really get through is Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb…
From there you’ll see GORGEOUS finishes and various styles of chill spots.
Having JUST been to the The Wing it’s very easy to compare and contrast. Both are impeccably well done, but The Pier is newer and has a completely different vibe. It’s not open air, but simultaneously feels spacious and intimate. That’s a trick and a half.
Care to hit the spa? Head on down the main hallway.
- Foot Massage? Check.
- Neck/Shoulder Massage? Check
- Tonic? Check….Wait, what’s a tonic?
Not in the mood to get your Spa on…maybe a shower?
No shower? How about one of their daybeds for a couple hours? Rest those weary bones.
Ok, Ok. You’re not into a spa day. Maybe a sit down meal in the private restaurant?
The dining room had an old hollywood vibe. I loved the lamps and woodwork – gave it an art deco feel.
No time to Lounge, dine, spa? Why are you in the lounge then…I’m confused? Oh…Gotta get some work done? Ugh…I know the feeling. They have you covered.
Non sequitur – I loved these little carts tucked here and there
It was a fun adventure hustling down to The Pier from The Wing. If you’re near either one of these lounges you will undoubtedly be wowed. They are truly incredible, luxurious, and should be in “the world’s best” conversation. What made it TRULY MEMORABLE to me…was doing with my dad. This is what travel does…it creates experiences. Every time I go back to Hong Kong from now on…I’ll remember hustling down the terminal to check out The Pier with my dad.
