25k AA miles lured me over to Sprint a few years ago. While the service isn’t always the best, I’ve only paid $50 a month for unlimited data and free international data + text. That’s hard to beat. The problem is the international plan, while attractive in name, is terribly slow. It’s fine when I need to FaceTime audio, send imessages, etc…but, if you need to load maps, send a picture, incessantly check instagram – you’re going to wait.
Enter…Sprint’s international high speed data
Up until recently, I was unaware that Sprint offered an international high speed data plan that was competitive in price. I know a few people who use Verizon and pay $10 a day to have full service when roaming, and while that can add up fast, I would sign up on occasion.
Sprint has a $25 a week plan. Here’s how you sign up
Your phone is already enabled with an international plan in over 100 countries, and I figured I’d need to call and add the high speed plan. Wrong. It’s way more simple.
When you land you’ll receive a text similar to this:
If you click on the link you’ll be taken here:
You’ll have one of two options: compare these rates to Verizon. For the week…under $4 a day.
- $5 a day
- $25 for 7 days
You’ll receive a confirmation text notifying you that you’re on high speed. You’ll also receive a text when it expires. If you want it for more days, or another week, simply rinse and repeat.
I can tell you that while in the UK and Iceland the service has been better than in the States. Super fast, reliable, and I’ve been able to feed my Tik Tok addiction with speed and fervor. Happy roaming!
