I spent my honeymoon in the Maldives last year splitting time between the Six Senses Laamu and the St Regis Maldives.  There had been absolutely incredible redemptions during the pandemic and Marriott still had an award chart. Since then, rates have increased quite a bit, and likely will go up even more once the program is fully dynamic. HOWEVER… I was just perusing award space online and came across some very attractive pricing “off-peak” during July, August, September of next year. I spent 10 nights in the Maldives over August/Sept and had wonderful weather, but it could get rainy…keep that in mind.

The craziest thing is the price on the 2 Bedroom Beachfront Villa…what?!

*Note that there is a transfer fee of $780 per person

These are for 5 night stays…remember Marriott members get a 5th night free

Breaking down the price:

For while earlier this year Marriott was charging a premium for an overwater vs garden villa. That isn’t the case anymore

You also don’t avoid the transfer fee when booking with points…this is for 2 people or roughly $780 a person. Steep.

The entry level villa at St Regis Maldives

Don’t stay in the entry level villa…not much air flows through here and honestly it’s like you’re not even in the Maldives.

The Overwater Villa is what you want…

This is a St Regis villa…

Here’s the crazy thing… 2 couples could go and stay for $2500 and 352k Marriott Bonvoy points for the room portion.

5 nights for $1250 total and 352k points. Breaking down…This absolutely massive 2 bedroom Beachfront villa is $250+ 70,400 points a night. That.Is.Nuts.

This doesn’t include the transfer or tax on the $1000 – the transfer alone is $745 per person, but every resort in the Maldives has high transfer fees which include a seaplane to the St Regis from Male.

For what its worth, the 2 bedroom has a tiny pool that is more of a jacuzzi.

I’ve been at the STR 3 times and will be going for a fourth time next year. Beautiful resort.

So I booked this because it is a great deal. I’ve seen the vids of the crap weather there in July so not sure if we will use it or not. Our feeling has been to throw down more points and cash for high season. Welcome any thoughts here. Thank you for the post.

There is a whopping $3332 in taxes and local fees for that 2 bedroom villa!

Michael – I’ve updated the post but the $1000 + 252k is room only. Every person has to pay a $745 transfer fee whether you use points or not which includes a seaplane transfer and I believe they assess taxes on the $1000 as well. Every room has to pay these fees, but I totally forgot to add that and have since updated.
