Often, hotels near an airport, or even in a city will offer day rates that run between 9am and 6pm. These can be ideal for long layovers, or if you just need a place to work that may be separate from your main hotel room ( for meetings, if you have noisy children, etc ) and they are often much cheaper than the rack rate for a night’s stay. This is exactly what I’m utilizing on an upcoming trip that has me transiting in London on two separate bookings with a very long layover in the middle. I’ve booked BA Club Suites to London and then JAL’s new First Class on the A350-1000 onward to Tokyo ( the first leg booked with Cathay for 63k miles and the second booked with AA for 90k miles ).
I’ll take advantage of Workspaces by Hilton to book a dayroom at the Hilton Garden Inn which is effectively attached to Terminal 2/3 at London’s Heathrow Airport – you need to cross the parking parking garage attached to 2/3, and you’ll be inside the hotel. It and the Sofitel both offer day rooms, and they’re quite easy to book.
I’ll be paying 99 pounds for my dayroom. I arrive late morning and depart late evening. This gives me and my buddy a place to either sleep, work, or drop my bags and head into the city. You can see the variety of rooms offered and how much cheaper they are than spending the night.
