Virgin Atlantic Elite Status Match 2022

2021 was the year of the status match, challenge, reduced qualifications, etc and 2022 is starting off much the same way. Virgin Atlantic is offering an instant status match to elite members of other airlines as long as you have a qualifying fare booked when you request the status match. Let’s take a look at how you could leverage your current status with a competing airline to get Virgin Atlantic elite status.

What is a status match?

It’s where you take the elite status you have with an airline or hotel and you match it to another. It’s a great way to see how you’d be treated at a competitor, but it’s often works whereby you can leverage an airline status to get a hotel or car rental status.

What does Virgin Atlantic Status get me?

Virgin Atlantic Status requirements have been reduced in 2022

Status had been extended to March 31, 2022, so starting April 1st the following requirements go into effect:

Gold Requirements 800 Tier points ( reduced from 1000 )

*This could be achieved in 2 r/t Upper Class flights

Silver Requirements 300 Tier points ( reduced from 400 )

*This could be achieved in 3 r/t economy flights

What do I need to do to match Virgin Atlantic Status

  • You need to be a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member – join here
  • Have a flight booked on Virgin that qualifies
  • Have proof of an existing qualifying airline status

Have a look at the airlines below and their corresponding status to know if you’ll match to Virgin Silver or Gold

Instant Match to Gold
  1. Prove your top tier status in another airline
  2. Future Revenue flight booked in:
    • Upper Class
    • Premium Economy
Instant Match to Silver
  1. Prove second tier status in another airline
  2. Future Revenue flight booked in any class

You need at least 1 flight booked in Upper Class or Premium Economy to instantly match to Virgin Elite Status.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.
