“Please stand at least one meter apart”

Singapore has deployed a Boston Dynamics robot dog named SPOT to remind people to stand at least one meter apart while in public spaces. It’ll also remind people to wash their hands, and while SPOT is equipped with a ton of cameras ( it has 360 degree vision ), apparently no ones data will be collected. Paint me a skeptic.

Lemme get this straight…in the past few months we’ve been hit with a global pandemic, put on lockdown, told to where masks everywhere, society nearly collapsed, and as things gradually open up, as if life won’t be strained enough thinking about a 2nd or 3rd wave… we’ll be welcome to a new normal where robots are literally patrolling streets, drones monitoring people from the air, we may need immunity passports to travel, and Google and Apple are designing a contact tracing app that governments may require that will monitor our every move and log our health data.

According to Boston Dynamics SPOT can…

program autonomous missions, design payloads to expand the robot’s capabilities, and integrate sensor information into data analysis tools. Spot’s mounting rails, payload ports, and software development kit give customers the tools they need to customize the robot for their application.

I share your sentiments Sarah.

I don’t like it. I don’t like it one bit.

I’m glad that the Skynet analogy occurred to someone else.
