Yesterday, I flew on one of AA’s 737 equipped with ViaSat Wifi and IT. WAS. FAST. AA currently holds contracts with 3 different WIFI providers: Gogo, Panasonic, and now ViaSat. Typically their domestic planes have utilized Gogo’s cellular service, and their international planes have been equipped with Panasonic’s satellite system. At the end of 2016, AA announced that it would equip roughly 500 aircraft with ViaSat’s Satellite based system to improve service, and I left a very impressed customer. You can actually utilize your Gogo account to access the ViaSat Wifi, or if you have passes ( like those offered with the Amex Business Platinum) you can redeem those too. At $16, for a 4 hour flight, I didn’t find the straight up purchase price to be unreasonable, especially for a very fast connection.
