Wine and Dine, but fill up on points and cashback

A couple of days ago I posted the basics of Amex Offers, explained the ins and outs of how they work, and why you should pay attention to them. Case in point. I have roughly a dozen, very good Amex offers on restaurants targeted my 5 cards. In fact, most of these offers are targeting each of my cards individually.

Go here to read about the basics of Amex Offers.

I find throughout the year the savings that can be had by adding Amex Offers to your targeted cards can outweigh your annual fee without taking any other benefits into consideration. Maybe not the entirety of the $1200+ that I pay in Amex Annual fees from my 5 cards, but every bit helps.

Here are the 5 American Express Cards that I keep and links to their current offers and why we have them in our wallet and recommend your consideration.

Stacking these offers with Amex Gold

Remember, American Express Gold now gets 4x points on dining. That means, for instance, if I were use my Amex Gold to spend $75 at Del Frisco’s Grille, I’d not only get the 300 points I’d normally accrue, but also a 1000 point bonus. That’s over 17x points at Del Frisco’s. ( In this scenario, my Amex Gold was targeted for Del Frisco’s )

I picked up my American Express Gold card last year, and it’s quickly become one of my most used cards. The dining and grocery bonuses are large contributors to its heavy use. Don’t forget, the Rose Gold version of the card is back until 7/17/19

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.
