It was a few weeks ago that I had read instances whereby people were getting targeted for free status. I checked the links that other bloggers had provided, and alas, I wasn’t targeted. I’d kind of thought I would be seeing as though I had been Executive Platinum last year, and then failed to reach any status whatsoever this year.  There’s plenty of anecdotal evidence around that a drop of that level often triggers something internally at AA, and also the reason that I opted to avoid getting even Gold status.  I didn’t think too hard about it, as I’m currently working on re-qualifying for Alaska status this year, and hadn’t thought of it until I went through my junk mail and stumbled upon a great offer. Platinum Pro status through September 7th…FOR FREE! There is also a challenge involved whereby I could keep the status longer if I fly 2ok EQM on select airlines, and accrue $2400 in EQD.

My status will be valid until September 7th.

You can try my offer code. If your account is targeted, it’s my thinking it should work for you as well.a screenshot of a phone

My Thoughts:

Platinum Pro is a weird status really. It slices the spread between Platinum and Executive Platinum down the middle without a whole lot of extra perks. Plats get comped Main Cabin Extra and preferred seats and access to biz lounges when traveling outside the status on One World airlines so there isn’t much gained there.

The biggest advantage is comped upgrades on flights within North America as early as 72 hours prior to departure. However, being based out of LA where a lot of Exec Plats are also, the odds are slim I’d land those with regularity. I’m going to have a think as to whether or not I want to attempt the challenge. I’m still planning a trip whereby I’d hit BA Silver on one roundtrip which would give me the lounge access, and access to main cabin extra…which is about all I’d really care about getting.

A reader, LDS, noted that Plat Pros as able to utilize Same Day Flight Changes as well. This is a great benefit – read more about it here, but one that I initially overlooked.

The biggest lesson for me is to check my junk mail with more regularity.

No the biggest benefit is that Plat Pros now get same day changes which used to be just for EXPs. I’d say the free upgrades are probably second.

      Great point! I’ll add 🙂

I got excited for a second since I was EP last year and only qualified for Gold this year, but code doesn’t work for me.
