There are two personal Alaska credit cards available now. This one and the premium version, Summit, that yield varying degrees of benefits depending on how often you fly Alaska Airlines and utilize their points on partners. 

If you seldom use Alaska points to fly their partners and rather fly Alaska planes, this card may make more sense for you. For a $95 annual you’ll get a get a $99 + $23 companion pass, free checked bags, and preferred boarding group. 

If you’re like me, and you don’t fly Alaska often, but make use of their points a lot ( Bilt is a transfer partner btw ), then the Summit may make more sense. It allows the combining of up to 10 different Atmos Rewards account, an annual 25k Companion Certificate ( to be used to offset 25k points on a two person itinerary ),  10k annual elite miles, 2 Alaska Lounge passes per quarter, and so on. But it carries a $395 annual fee.

I live in Atlanta and rarely, if ever, fly on Alaska or Hawaiian. So why did I add this card to my wallet?

I use Alaska points quite a bit to fly on American Airlines domestically and Internationally as well as their other partners like British Airways, Japan Airlines, Qatar, FinnAir, etc. The points are super valuable and when you redeem them, you are actually earning status points even when flying on partners. 

The ability to earn a 25k Companion Certificate, no partner fees, and 10k Elite Miles every year offsets the fees. I make and cancel a lot of flights, so those $12.50 partner fees add up – this card eliminates them for me. It also allows you to combine the points from 10 different Atmos member accounts to make a booking. Since I pretty much do all the travel planning in my family, it makes my job much easier to book tickets out of a single account. 

They’re a Bilt Rewards partner  + I have a heavy cache of Alaska points from their partnership with Hawaiian Airlines when you could move Amex to Alaska via a Hawaiian transfer.

As you can see, I have a bevy of reasons why it makes sense for me to pay $395. It comes with a lot of other Alaska centric benefits like lounge passes, wifi passes, bags, etc that I may infrequently use. My primary reason for adding the card is my usage of Alaska points for partner redemptions.

This is the only business card currently offered, and it’s nearly a duplication of the personal “Ascend” giving you a free and up to 6 people a free checked bag, preferred boarding, and you’ll earn an annual $122 BOGO. 

I think it’s a solid card if you actually fly on Alaska or Hawaiian planes – the BOGO will likely offset your annual fee even if you don’t utilize all of the other benefits.

If you’re like me, and you don’t fly Alaska often, but make use of their points a lot ( Bilt is a transfer partner btw ), then the Personal card, Atmos Summit, may make more sense. But it carries a $395 annual fee.
